Good News for Indian Carpet & Rug Exporters 🇮🇳🇪🇺
Under the new India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), effective from 2026, more than 99% of Indian exports to the European Union will be duty-free.
This also includes carpets and rugs (HS Chapter 57).
Earlier, Indian carpets exported to Europe faced import duties of around 3–8%. These duties will now be removed, making Indian carpets more competitive and attractive for EU buyers.
What this means for the carpet industry:
Lower landed cost for European buyers
Better pricing advantage for Indian exporters
Higher demand potential from EU markets
More opportunities for long-term export orders
Important for manufacturers:
*This is a good time for manufacturers to:
Improve quality consistency
* Align with export specifications
* Prepare documentation and compliance
* Be ready for EU buyer requirements
* Early preparation will help manufacturers benefit more when demand increases.

This is a positive development for the handmade carpets and rugs sector.
