Challenges faced by Architects while designing HVAC systems:
The most common challenges faced by the architects while designing the HVAC system are the space requirements for HVAC Equipments , specially the ceiling hung units which require trap doors/ access points at various locations, the ducts in the areas which tend to push the false ceiling down, the requirements of certain openings on the façade either for fresh air intake or for exhaust , special ventilation requirements of various areas inside the building (Kitchens and Toilet Ventilation etc.), Increased glazing to enhance the façade element, massive services requirement at ceiling level in the basements, the shafts required to transfer services in between various floors and the placement of equipments at terrace level. There may be certain other project specific related issues also which may vary from project to project. The other major struggle is to get maximum heights under the false ceiling and the biggest item inside that is the A.C. ducting that takes maximum space; same applies for ventilation ducts in the basement/s.
