Baankahi is the newest addition to our studio’s work — a restaurant born from the land it stands on.
The architecture follows the language of the traditional Assam-type bungalow — a form long rooted in the tea gardens of the region. Built with ekra looking walls, generous verandahs, and sloped roofs suited to the heavy monsoons, the structure carries a familiar rhythm while being crafted entirely with materials and skills that belong here. Inside, mahogany and teak sit alongside hand-woven cane furniture, made by local artisans, keeping alive a culture of making that is both resourceful and refined. It’s a space that doesn’t imitate heritage — it continues it, thoughtfully and with care.
