Who doesn’t love a crispy dosa with hot filter coffee?
When we set out to design the new outlet for , already well-loved with a few outlets in Cochin, we knew it couldn’t be just another typical vegetarian eatery. Luckily, convincing the owners our close friends Alex and Faisal was the easy part and can't thank them enough for choosing us.
Our idea? Bring back a touch of nostalgia with the Indian thinnai—a simple, raised platform where you fold your legs and enjoy a meal. Not only did it add a homely charm, but it also maximized seating. And what better way to serve traditional food than by surrounding it with traditional materials? Terracotta, the most local and earthy of choices, paired with soft lime-washed walls, set the perfect tone.
For seating, we took inspiration from the char bagh gardens of the Mughals—though instead of four, we settled for two sections, keeping things mirrored and balanced. All the furniture has been custom-made to seamlessly blend with the aesthetics of the space, ensuring the muted palette remains undisturbed.
A design tradition we’ve unknowingly developed over time is gifting our clients a central art piece—something that becomes a conversation starter. Here, we playfully dedicated it to Alex, who had spent years wanting to gift the moon to Sanju. So, we did exactly that—stationed a moon right in the space for her. Now, it’s the perfect muse for anyone sipping their filter coffee, lost in thought wondering what it would be...
