Apple trees were never part of my childhood imagination.
Growing up in Odisha, apples felt like a fruit from faraway cold places—something we ate, but never thought of seeing grow.
Life, however, takes us places. After marriage, as my husband’s work in construction brought us to Jammu, I entered a new wonderland. And there they were—apple trees.
Short, laden with fruits—green, red, and shining. They amused me, they fascinated me.
I watched locals drying apple slices to eat later, and even to use as prasad in temples. Suddenly, apples were not distant anymore—they were familiar, part of daily life. Apple pies, apple jams, and all things apple caught my attention.
And here’s a small tip I’ve learned along the way:
🍎 Apple and cinnamon are a timeless pair.
🥜 Apple with peanut butter tastes divine.
From being an exotic fruit of “somewhere else” to becoming a familiar friend, apples remind me that experiences expand our taste, our memory, and our sense of home.
