When should you hire an interior designer?

Earlier than you think.

One of the biggest misconceptions about interior design is that a designer comes in once construction is underway or when it’s time to select furniture and finishes.

In reality, some of the most important design decisions happen much earlier.

- How will the family use the home?
- Where should the furniture go?
- Do the electrical points work with the layout?
- Where should the lighting be placed?
- What needs to be custom designed?
- Can we improve the storage or circulation?

These decisions become much harder — and often more expensive — once work has already begun.
After years of designing homes, I’ve learnt that a good interior designer isn’t just there to make a home beautiful.
We’re there to make the right decisions before the beautiful things arrive.If you’re building, renovating or taking possession of a new home, start the design conversation early.

Fluting, but more seamless.

We’ve used fluted wood details in our projects before, but fluted veneer opens up a whole new level of precision and finish.

I’m already imagining it on my next furniture piece—or as a textured TV lounge wall. Subtle, tactile, and beautifully refined.

Over the last 20 years, I’ve seen interior design evolve in many ways.
But the biggest shift is not really about trends. It’s about how people want to feel in their homes.Earlier, homes were often designed to look impressive.
Today, people want spaces that feel calmer, softer, and easier to live in.
There’s more focus on:
- Functionality
- natural light
- meaningful materials
- Comfort
- emotional connection to spaces
And I truly believe that’s what luxury should feel like.
Not loud. Not excessive.
Just thoughtful, effortless, and deeply personal.
