TYPES OF PLYWOOD
1. Exterior plywood
Exterior plywood is a weather-resistant kind. Since it is meant to be used outside and exposed to every sort of weather elements, it is made stronger, and its layers are glued together using waterproof glue. It resists wind perfectly well. It is also not easily damaged by water and other weather elements. If you want plywood for exterior purposes, you should choose the exterior plywood.
2. Marine plywood

This kind of plywood usually falls between grade B or higher and is usually clear of knots or holes. 3. Interior plywood
As the name suggests, interior plywood is used for indoor tasks. This plywood is not resistant to weather elements and therefore, should not be exposed for long to the elements. 4. Softwood plywood
Going by the name, most people would think that these plywo ods are not very strong. But that is not the case. The fact that they are named softwood is because they are manufactured from softwoods like Doug-fir, SPF, SYP, Hem-fir, among others, which are quite robust. Besides, these plywoods are used for serious tasks like exterior frame sheathing, sub-flooring, roof sheathing, temporary flooring, building sheds, among others.
5. Hardwood plywood
This type of plywood is usually made with 3 to 7 layers. These layers are from hardwoods like oak, maple, walnut, birch, among others. Hardwood offers the best in furniture making, sporting equipment, packing cases, among others. They are also often used in making musical instruments.
6. Structural plywood
This type of plywood is more of strength than appearance, which is why they usually fall between grade C or D. Such plywoods usually have numerous knots and holes, but their tasks do not require high aesthetic value. Besides, they are often very cheap. Consider this type of plywood in subflooring or building a shelf in the garage. 7. Aircraft plywood
As the name suggests, these are plywoods used in making aircraft. They are also applied in making boats and heavy-duty furniture. Aircraft plywood is among the highest graded plywoods, making it among the most expensive. However, this is not all for nothing. The plywood is made from hardwoods like birch and mahogany which give it incredible strength. Interestingly, this plywood is also among the lightest.
8. Overlaid plywood
This type of plywood is almost similar to regular traditional plywood. However, it has an overlaid finished face which looks more attractive. But the finished face is not necessarily for the appearance but to protect it from scratches, waterproof as well as stick-resistant. The plywood is available in both high density and medium density, with the former having more resin, making it more expensive.
9. Lumber core plywood
Lastly is the lumber core plywood which is basically made from three plies. The plies come in the form of layers, with the two on the outer sides being thin veneers made from hardwood and the middle one being the core. The core is made from wood strips which are glued together. This type of plywood works best for projects that involve a lot of screwing and require strong screw holding.
