It's incredibly frustrating when clients fail to appreciate the true value of design work. Many seem to forget that design isn't just about making things look good—it's about creating functional, well-thought-out spaces that improve the way people live or work. The time, effort, and expertise we put into each project are significant, and there’s also the cost of professional tools and software to consider, which isn't cheap.
Lately, I’ve made the decision to stop engaging with clients who don't value the importance of the design phase. These are often the same people who don’t want to invest in the foundational aspects of a project, yet expect high-quality results. And let’s be honest, there’s no guarantee that after all the design work, they’ll hire you for the implementation phase. They might hand over your designs to a local vendor, bypassing the designer who crafted the vision.
In the end, it's just not worth the time or energy to work with clients who don’t understand the importance of what we bring to the table.
