🌍 World Cleanup Day Celebration at Literacy India! 🌍

At Literacy India's Vidyapeeth, Bajghera Campus, students rolled up their sleeves on September 20, 2024, to celebrate World Cleanup Day. This global initiative, led by the UN, aims to tackle the world’s waste crisis and work toward a Waste-Free Country. At Literacy India, the focus is not just on education but also on environmental responsibility.

The event was marked with a unique cleanup activity in the computer lab, where students learned the importance of regular maintenance and cleanliness of electronic devices like laptops and tablets. It was more than just cleaning; it was about extending the life of these devices for optimal performance and creating a healthy work environment.
Benefits of Cleaning Your Laptop & Tablet:

💻 Improved Performance: Dust can block vents, causing overheating. Regular cleaning ensures better airflow and prevents slowdowns.

💻 Extended Lifespan: Keeping devices free from dust and debris helps prevent damage, ensuring they last longer.

💻 Better Functionality & Aesthetics: Sticky keys and smudged screens affect usability. A clean device is more pleasant to use and looks great.

💻 Healthier Workspace: Dust and allergens accumulate in your devices. Cleaning reduces the risk of allergies and other health issues.

💻 Increased Battery Life: Cleaning vents helps maintain optimal battery performance by preventing overheating.

Students were excited to take part in the e-waste recycling workshop, turning discarded electronics into innovative models and art installations. Ideas flowed as students crafted:

🔌 Art Installations from old circuit boards, raising awareness about the dangers of e-waste.

🔌 Functional Furniture like tables made from computer parts, blending sustainability with creativity.

🔌 DIY Educational Kits that teach electronics and sustainability in schools.

🔌 Upcycled Tech Gadgets like speakers, proving discarded electronics still hold value.

🔌 Sustainable Fashion with e-waste turned into unique jewellery and accessories.

🌱 The day reminded everyone that education goes beyond books—it is about taking action for a cleaner, healthier planet. The students of Literacy India are leading by example, proving that small efforts toward cleaning and recycling can make a significant impact.

Together, we can make our country Waste-Free and pave the way for a brighter, more sustainable future! 🌿

2️⃣ Avoiding peepal trees at night
3️⃣ Black cats crossing paths
4️⃣ Not chewing tulsi leaves 🌿
5️⃣ Sleeping with your head facing north

🧪 Science Experiments:

Lemon colour changes through a chemical reaction 🍋
Lifting utensils using physics 🛠️

💬 Q&A on Superstitions:
Students asked thought-provoking questions like, “Why do people still believe in superstitions?” and “Can science explain everything?”

🎨 Props made from waste materials added a creative, eco-friendly touch. The event ended with powerful slogans promoting scientific thinking.

Children of Literacy India centre at village Mandkola, a rural area in Palwal district just two hours from Gurgaon, recently had a transformative experience. With limited exposure to the world beyond their village, these young minds embarked on a memorable visit to KidZania.

At KidZania, they explored various roles—becoming doctors, lawyers, bankers, radio jockeys, caterers, motorbikers, firefighters, and even pilots. Wearing uniforms and engaging in hands-on activities, they tasted different professions and life skills.

This immersive experience was designed to expand their horizons and inspire them to dream beyond their current surroundings. By showing them a world of possibilities, this trip aimed to ignite their ambitions and help them envision a brighter future. 🌟

Cheers to the Trailblazers Shaping Our Future! 🎓🏆

At Village Bajghera, we gathered to honour Literacy India's first teachers, but the celebration extended far beyond. Over 238 teachers from 35 centres across 10 states were recognized for their unwavering dedication to educating our children. Special appreciation was given to Theatre Teachers Rajeev Sharma and Chaand Mukerjee for completing a year of inspiring work with us, alongside our skilled trainers in Robotics, Martial Arts, IT, and other fields who are making a profound impact.

The day began with a soulful Gurbandana performance by our talented students at the Bajghera Campus, setting the tone for an uplifting celebration. Our students shared heartfelt tributes to the mentors who have shaped their paths, and the atmosphere was filled with gratitude.

Former educators were honoured with inspiring speeches by Trustee Mr. Rajpal Singh Duggal, Advisory Board Member Mr. Naresh Lakhani, and our visionary Founder, Capt. Indraani Singh. Awards were presented to outstanding teachers for their empathy, creativity, and exceptional engagement with students. Our incredible trainers also received special recognition for their transformative contributions.

The event concluded with a lively dance session where our teachers joined in with energy and joy, celebrating not just their work but the community they’ve built together. 💃🕺 The day’s highlights were captured in a group photo, showcasing the spirit of unity and excellence.

We celebrated the legacy of pioneers like Mrs. Pushpa Singh, our first Pathshala teacher, and honored stalwarts like Mrs. Nisha Dohroo, Mrs. Seema, and Mr. G.S. Dubey—a cornerstone at Vidyapeeth since 2001. Every mentor, past and present, who has been part of this incredible journey was recognized with deep appreciation. 🏛️✨

Since 1996, every Independence Day at Literacy India has grown more extensive and vibrant. Our journey reflects the diversity of our nation, yet the spirit of unity and patriotism shines through year after year. This year, thousands of students and teachers came together, participating in various activities to celebrate the occasion.

From the bustling streets of Salkia and Chingrighata in Kolkata to the serene forest landscapes of Lowakui and Pratappur in Purulia, to the lively communities of Bijwasan in Delhi, and Bajghera, Gupta Colony, Dharam Colony, and Carterpuri in Gurgaon—each place echoed with the same enthusiasm. Some joined the Independence Day Foot March, proudly carrying the tricolour. Others took to cycling, their bikes adorned with flags, as they pedalled with pride. Cultural programs brought out the rich tapestry of our heritage, and in true patriotic spirit, many chose to participate in a cleaning drive, contributing to a cleaner, greener India.

These teachers and students carried their belief of being one nation, one people, though they hailed from different regions like Manoharthana and Indore Village in Rajasthan. Their faces and cultures may differ, but their hearts beat as one, united under the same flag. Jai Hind! 🇮🇳

🌍✨ Celebrating World Skills Day with American Express, Our oldest CSR Partner!

As technology advances rapidly, the line between education and skills blurs. In the past, jobs were stream-specific, but now they are skill-specific. For instance, once a humble task, sewing is now a celebrated art form, leading to courses in fashion and interior design. Icons like Manish Malhotra have shown how skills can lead to success, even if unrelated to formal education.

We hosted an online session with Mr Rohit Sehgal and Ms Tanu Chhabra from American Express' Training and Development cell on the "Importance of Skills in Career." Over 250 participants from various centres joined to learn about essential 21st-century skills: Communication, Teamwork, Accountability, Problem-Solving, and Leadership.

Our trainers highlighted that education provides knowledge, but skills bring that knowledge to life. This session empowered our beneficiaries to understand client needs, work effectively, and adapt to changing situations. Let's continue to nurture skills and transform lives! 🌟👩‍💼👨‍💼
