Mouth and Foot Painting Artists - India

The MFPA is an international society of differently abled artists who paint with their mouth or feet due to a disability that prohibits the use of their hands.

The roots of the MFPA go back to 1956, when Erich Stegmann, a polio-stricken mouth painter, gathered a small band of disabled artists from eight European countries. Their ultimate goal was to make their living through their artistic efforts, and to obtain a sense of work security that until then had eluded them. Coupling his creative abilities with business acumen, Stegmann established the MFPA as

a co-operative organization that reproduces its artists work mainly in the form of greeting cards, calendars and books. From the small group he gathered for the inaugural meeting of the Association, the group has now grown to represent nearly 800 members, from 74 countries around the world. One of the main themes of Stegmann's credo was that the MFPA must never be regarded as a charity simply because its members are disabled. To Stegmann, the word "charity" was as abhorrent as the word "pity". To this day, the MFPA's motto worldwide remains "self-help, not charity".

MFPA wishes Lata Machindra Landge a very happy birthday! Born in the city of Aurangabad in Maharashtra, without both her hands, Lata got into the habit of performing all tasks with her feet at an early age.
By the time she was twelve, her love for art had blossomed and transformed into a dear passion. This was when she started painting and drawing with her feet! With consistent effort and hard work, her talent came through! She became a skilled foot painting artist. Lata also successfully completed her graduation with a Master’s Degree in Arts.
She joined MFPA in 2005 and has painted on a wide variety of subjects since. Landscapes and flowers are her favourite themes.
