A few towel cuts. Some forgotten fabric scraps. And a small idea that became something meaningful.

For some time, I had been holding on to these towel cuts, waiting for the right moment to turn them into handmade mug rugs.

Then I looked at the fabric scraps left behind from my earlier quilting projects and thought—why not give these pieces another purpose?

Using strip piecing, we brought the different scraps together, creating colourful patchwork layers. We then added hand quilting, making each mug rug stronger, sturdier and full of character.

But this project became more than an attempt to create a useful product.

It became a small reminder of something I deeply believe in:

We don’t always have to do something big to make a difference. Sometimes, saving one piece of fabric, creating one useful product or making one thoughtful choice is enough to begin.

These little mug rugs may be small, but they carry a bigger purpose—reducing textile waste, celebrating handmade craftsmanship and giving overlooked materials a beautiful second life.

Because every fabric scrap has a story.
Every stitch adds value.
And every small action can create a meaningful difference.

Before I knew it, one quilt block had stitched together centuries of history.

A couple of years after I started quilting, a dear friend asked me to make her a quilt. I chose one of the most loved and enduring quilt patterns—the Log Cabin.

What many people don't know is that the tiny centre square of a traditional Log Cabin block carries a beautiful meaning.

A yellow centre represents the warm glow of the sun, bringing hope, joy and light into the home.

A red centre traditionally symbolizes the hearth or fireplace—the heart of the home, where families gathered for warmth, love and togetherness.

Some quilters also choose black, blue, green or other colours to tell their own personal story, making every quilt unique.

Do you know that during the American Civil War, log cabin quilts hanging outside the house was a means of sending messages to others.

For this quilt, I chose yellow. I wanted every block to remind my friend that, even through life's changing seasons, there is always warmth, positivity and sunlight waiting to shine through.

Every quilt tells a story. Sometimes, it begins with just one tiny square.

Which centre would you choose for your quilt—yellow for sunshine or red for the warmth of home? Tell me in the comments!

Let’s address the strange logic of my favorite obsession!

Have you ever tried to explain quilting to a non-quilter?

My dad put it best when he called it the "magical process" (aka The Great Destruction) of taking perfectly good fabric, cutting it into hundreds of tiny pieces, and then spending weeks (and maybe a few cups of coffee ☕️) meticulously sewing them all back together.

It sounds absolutely crazy when you say it out loud, but there’s nothing quite like that complicated finish—the moment the final stitch goes in, and you hold up that perfect, wonderful creation.

From beautiful bolts to a finished quilt, we wouldn't trade this chaotic journey for anything!
Where are you in this process right now?

Let me know in the comments: Are you currently in "The Great Destruction" or "The Endless Reassembly"?
