Before materials, furniture or colour palette, the real first question is: who are we designing for? A student after college, a family at dinner, a Gen Z customer chasing a shareable moment, they all use the same space differently.
That audience shapes zoning, seating density, ordering flow, lighting, acoustics, materials, circulation and ambience.
But demographics are only the start. Two customers of the same age can use a restaurant completely differently, which is why good F&B design goes beyond age and income to actual behaviour.
Before asking “what should this look like,” ask “who is coming, why, and how they should use the space.” That’s where real restaurant design begins.
Save this before planning your next café or restaurant concept.
