Our Story

Art Etc...was set up in 2010 by Film maker Maya Rao and her partner Narendra Sachar, Actor and Executive Producer. They have been working with rural artisans for several years and have made documentaries on them triggering their passion for Indian Handicrafts and a desire to promote them. The idea is to bring exquisite handcrafted products procured directly from craftsmen and artisans, women weavers and artists into the mainstream markets and trigger an interest in consumers to choose eco-friendly, locally made hand crafted exclusive products over the mechanized identical ones. This will not only promote environmentally sensitive handicrafts industry but will provide a source of income to the villagers thus boosting rural economy. Looking at the current crisis caused due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the panic caused due to the sudden lock down in which millions of migrants were stranded in cities with no resources to go back home, isn’t it time to rethink how economic progress is to be measured and how consumers should look at WHAT they buy, WHY they buy and FROM WHOM they buy and HOW it impacts the lives of our cohabitants on this planet. We cannot think in isolation or only about our needs and desires..we need to evolve into better human beings and understand how we are in this together. So buy with a conscience, buy from members of Fair Trade, buy green and buy only as much as you need.
