Put Your Hands Together Bio-Architects the house, source of inspiration for architects, continues to be hallowed space because it is essential both human and cosmic. Minh-ha

"Like other types of rural architecture in the world, traditional African architecture - designed, lived, and perceived by mortals - exists only through a set of relations with the gods and with nature. This architecture born of profoundly spiritual and productive relations between dweller and dwelling, space and habitat, accommodates sociability and implies the continuos existence of the group. E

ach house reveals itself to be at once a tool, a work of art, and a spiritual space. It is built according to the model of the human body to shelter, protect, receive, revive, and survive; to give aesthetic pleasure, to dream in peace, to create a social terrain, to facilitate communion with ancestors and gods, but also to comply with the forces of nature. A lived-in house is, like adult humanity, apt to procreate - a house in constant evolution. It is a living element the grows and shrinks, that demands regularly looked after, repaired, and care for like a sick person, and dies when allowed to fall into disrepair. The house is neither a means nor an end in itself; it is both constructed space space of construction - a framework within which, with which, and thanks to which one lives."

Every angle of the swimming pool at Aaranya.

The Aaranya Farmhouse near Hyderabad is organised as three articulated volumes: a living block positioned along an infinity lap pool, a guest block across a densely planted courtyard spine, and a perpendicular master suite and kitchen block.

The spatial strategy emphasises permeability—every volume opens into the courtyard, creating layered thresholds, varied circulation paths, and a continuous dialogue between built form, water, and the landscape.

Constructed in load-bearing CSEB partly finished in tadelakt lime plaster, with mild steel roof rafters and upper-level louvres for passive ventilation, the project merges material clarity with climatic responsiveness to form a grounded, immersive environment.

Saguna Baug Pond Houses, Neral, Maharashtra.

Designed at the intersection of land and water, this project embraces indigenous construction methods and locally sourced materials. Using Compressed Stabilized Earth Blocks (CSEBs), brick shallow domes, terracotta roofing tiles, natural stones, and oxide surfaces, the structures achieve durability, climate responsiveness, and a deep connection to their environment.

Being an architect is often a challenging journey, and running your own design studio can make it even more demanding.

After facing burnout and near-burnout on multiple occasions, I’ve come to realize that rest plays a crucial role in starting the new year on the right foot. Daytime naps at the studio, for instance, are highly recharging.

This brings me to a philosophy I’ve been exploring and discussing with friends and family: *Chilling and Working*, or what I like to call *CHWORK* (Could also be Chilled Work). It’s an approach to navigating the highs and lows of architectural work with balance and mindfulness, allowing us to stay productive while also prioritizing rest and well-being.

CHWORK is about embracing a mindset that harmonizes work with moments of relaxation, fun, laughter and joy ensuring we don’t just survive the demands of our profession, but thrive in it.

Hope it lasts forever.
