Every corner can become part of the play.

In this Prestige clubhouse, the creche is designed around the way children turn spaces into places to play: moving from one discovery to the next, climbing, interacting and following their curiosity. The checkerboard ceiling brings a playful graphic quality overhead, while rounded openings, climbing walls and activity stations give that energy a physical form.

The design keeps the space open to interpretation, leaving room for children to decide what each corner, opening or element can become.

At this another clubhouse for Prestige in Mumbai, the banquet interiors are defined by a play of geometry, proportion and warm material tones. A patterned ceiling, timber-clad wall elements and carefully framed stone flooring give the space a distinct identity, while the open layout allows it to adapt to different occasions and gatherings.

Stay tuned as we share more from the project!

A bedroom can be warm without being predictable. For this son’s bedroom at an upcoming residence in Mumbai, the design plays with contrast, bringing together a darker, more dramatic backdrop with softer elements that keep the room feeling comfortable and lived-in.

The deep botanical wallpaper gives the room its mood, while curved brass accents catch the light and soften the darker tones. Muted upholstery, textured fabrics and timber flooring add warmth and depth, keeping the room from feeling too heavy.

It is this balance of drama and comfort that gives the bedroom its character, with each detail contributing to the way the room feels.

Smart homes are becoming less about adding technology and more about making everyday life easier.

In the cover story for the September 2026 issue of India Today HOME, our Founder and Principal Designer, Rahul Mistri , shares his perspective on how thoughtful automation can become part of everyday routines, adapting to the way people actually move through their homes.

In the master bedroom, warmth and comfort set the tone from the moment you enter. At this apartment in Mumbai, the design was approached around creating a sense of warmth, comfort and ease, while giving the room a distinct identity.

The space balances softer elements with richer details, allowing the room to feel different through the day. From the way light moves through the room to the warm, earthy palette of natural wood, stone and muted neutrals, every aspect comes together to make the bedroom feel settled and comfortable.

We often talk about luxury interiors through what we see: the visual language and the objects within a space. But our experience of an interior is shaped by much more than its appearance.

This made us look more closely at the role of materiality in shaping how a space is experienced. How materials interact with light, touch, sound and time can influence the atmosphere of a space in ways that are not always immediately visible.

Our latest blog looks at how material choices influence the experience of an interior. Read our latest blog on our website, link in bio!

A home can be shaped around a specific way of living because the person using it, their preferences, likes, dislikes, and personality are known. But spaces like clubhouses, show flats, retail environments, and even workplaces need to respond to a much wider range of users and possibilities.

So how do you design for someone you haven’t met?
For us, it begins with creating choice rather than prescribing how a space should be used.
A clubhouse, for instance, needs to support different ages, activities and moods. In one of our clubhouse projects, shifts in scale, light and proportion create varied experiences within a single design language.

A show flat should leave room for buyers to imagine their own way of living, while a retail space should offer different ways to browse, interact and pause. The intent is to create possibilities, rather than prescribe a single way of experiencing the space.
The more diverse the end user, the more important it becomes to leave room for choice.

On this International Day of Democracy, we look at what it means to design spaces for many, rather than one.

For many, a foyer is simply the space between the door and the home, with a predetermined function. For us at Open Atelier Mumbai, this space cannot be boxed into a predetermined typology or solution.

We approach each foyer as part of the home’s larger spatial experience —understanding its relationship to the spaces around it, the degree of privacy or openness required, and how one should enter and move through the residence. The design follows from these relationships.

Across the various residences designed, this thinking takes different forms: sometimes, an artwork becomes the first point of encounter; at times, a material intervention establishes a boundary; a framed opening controls the view into the spaces beyond; elsewhere, the foyer flows directly into the home, making the transition more seamless.

Here, function and experience are not separate considerations—the way a foyer manages access, privacy, and movement also shapes the experience of arriving home.
