deCoDe architecture (de) Co De : (of) Collaborative Design Our work tends to be quiet and subtle putting the focus on the experience rather than the expense.

(de)CoDe architecture is a multidisciplinary design practice specializing in architecture, interior and design consultancy. With over 10 years of professional experience working for various offices in New York City and Bombay, the partners in the practice follow the adage: Keep it simple. We believe in an inclusive, gender-neutral, non-hierarchical, collaborative practice where the only end goal is a happy client. The work of the firm draws on the diverse backgrounds and interests of its two partners, but is eventually realized through a process of active engagement with a broader network of consultants, contractors, craftspeople and the client. We consistently draw on these experiences and resources to inform our practice and through our teaching positions at various schools of Architecture.

Welcome to MYRA πŸ™‚

A home to a beautiful couple who were building their first home in the city of Bombay. Having grown up and lived in Chandigarh through their adolescent years, they wanted this home to be a repository for all their memories, family and travels while also being a genesis for the new start they were embarking on.

The extra bedroom in the home was enclosed by walls (duh obviously!) and we took these down to create an open/closed study/office space with sliding wooden partitions that would provide privacy without taking away the light that the earlier option did. This opened up the visual reach of the living space and made the entrance of the home much brighter!

P.S. There’s a bathroom behind that door!

What makes a home?

Is it the people that inhabit it or the objects that fill up a space? Or the materials that are used to build it? Or is it what you look out of the window and see?

A home is not about the square footage, the ceiling height, the size of the bedrooms or the appliances in the kitchen.

A home is a memory.
A home is a warm embrace.
A home is a feeling.
A home is where you come back to.
A home is a safe space.

Not every house is a home.

The Living area is a place of pause, gathering, celebrations, friendships and family. The space was designed in a warm and embracing palette that makes one feel at home immediately. The coldness of the existing apartment was replaced with the warmth of a family home.

One of our favorite little corners in the home; where one can look into the peace of the home and the chaos of the city both together.

This corner of the living area was originally clad in a metal finish that spanned the entire length of the wall from the entry. Along with the grey wallpaper that adorned all the walls in the home and the low ceilings, it made the home look dull and heavy inspite of having such beautiful views.
