Architecture and Mental Health
Architecture isn't just about luxury and opulence. While it does serve the purpose of exhibitionism and social dominance, but that's only to a small segment of society. To the most it serves the purpose of basic amenities, comfort and convenience. There's a reason we are taught Sociology in architectural schools, but that aspect seems to have been lost in the cause.
A well designed space doesn't just need to belong to a chosen few or represent a certain class. It serves a deeper purpose for the betterment of our society. An aesthetically pleasant building brings serenity and calm, a well planned space brings in comfort, an appropriately designed road bringsforth comfort hence eliminates irritation, well designed pathways obliterates anxiety, a convenient parking space mitigates frustration, so on and so forth.
Every little space around us has an element of architecture in it, and thus every little space affects our mental well being.
On , let us recall and resolve the need for human sensitive architecture. Let's play our role for the betterment of our society. Let us change the norms and bring them to where they belong.
