DESK. architecture & urban design practice

DESK. architecture & urban design practice architecture I urban design des.k was founded by Architect Kunal Kelkar in November’ 12.

In a short time, which began after years of professional exposure of the team, the practice has successfully garnered confidence of its clients from myriad sectors of construction industry. What makes us stand apart is our un-flinching conviction to create ‘responsible architecture’ which respects the science of buildings while not letting go of the art of the spaces. FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION FOLLOWS

FORM FOLLOWS...We understand design development as a continuing act of negotiation between the brief, the functions, the constraints, the budget, the vision and the time of course. We insist on and facilitate rigorous involvement of our clients in the initial phase of design development when the brief is developed, the functionns are understood, budget rationalised, vision is inspired and time is framed. This is followed by an agressive design development stage when the ideas are crystalised in form of lines and diagrams, while simultaneously working with our co-consultants to continuously rationalise the design.

Design Inspired by Place
Drawing from Pune’s rugged topography and historic forts, our concept reflects the region’s rustic fort architecture marked by curving bastions, winding steps, and terraced spaces —creating a subtle, local narrative rooted in culture and landscape.
Leisure Hotel Concept
The 104-key hotel (approx. 15,000 sq.m.) is designed as a leisure destination, complete with restaurants, cafes, and banquets—all oriented towards the stadium to enhance visual and spatial connectivity.

Stadium Parking - 1600 Cars, two wheelers and cycles require around 8 lakh square feet of constructed space to accommodate the same. This major construction remains under-utilized for most part of the year on non-match days. It is perennial that the structure finds its optimized use on these non-match days for its operational sustainability, financial viability and maintenance.

The design proposes to add functions like food courts, restaurants, amphitheater, botanical garden etc on the terraces of the structure. These functions have the potential to attract visitors to the Stadium facility even on non-match days. Apart from these add-ons within the structure, the proposed design attempts to develop a ‘public park’ adjacent to the parking structure which can remain open to general public on non-match days and can act as a spill over area to the entrance plaza on match days.
Additionally, this intervention opens up space to accommodate public transport to the stadium facility.

Architecture that celebrates place, sports, culture & community-

Good architecture, through its manifest form, often reflects a ‘singularity’ of the Concept idea. Paradoxically, this singularity draws from a palimpsest of – artistic aspirations, functional requirements, budgetary constraints, spatial limitations, constructability and sustainability considerations.

The architectural approach and philosophy of the proposed design has drawn from multiple strands of ideas and influences to address the requirements of the design brief. Our design proposal takes inspiration from the region’s iconic forts—robust, utilitarian, and deeply rooted in local identity.
From smart circulation for 50K+ visitors to sustainable materials, green - ventilating terraces, public spaces, hospitality & sports facilities - this isn’t just a stadium campus. It’s a year-round, people-first campus built for the future.
Form meets function. Culture meets context.
A space where sport, leisure, and community thrive—every day of the year.
