3 Curtain Fabrics Iโd Avoid If I Were an Interior Designer ๐
Before you pick a curtain fabric just because it looks beautiful in the showroom, ask yourself: Will it actually work in my space?
If I were designing a home, these are 3 fabrics Iโd be very careful with:
โ1. Silk for everyday windows
Silk looks luxurious, but it can be sensitive to sunlight and needs more care. Iโd reserve it for formal spaces where the curtains arenโt exposed to harsh daily sunlight.
โ2. Very Delicate Sheers as your only curtain
Voile and organza can create that beautiful, airy look and diffuse natural light, but they donโt offer the privacy or light-blocking you may need. Iโd use them as a layer, paired with a functional curtain or blind.
โ3. 100% Unlined Cotton
Pure unlined cotton can shrink significantly after washing and may fade quickly when exposed to direct sunlight. Without a protective lining, it can look thin, lose its shape more easily, and provide limited light control.
And remember, there is no โbest curtain fabric.โ
There is only the right fabric for your room.
Your sunlight, privacy requirements, room size, furniture, colour palette and overall interior style should all influence your choice.
At DC Furnishing, we help you choose the right curtain fabric, with custom curtain stitching and professional fitting to complete the look.
