An inviting archway crafted from exposed brick marks the entrance of the Salesian Residence in Banswara, seamlessly blending form with function.

The axial symmetry in the design centers around a courtyard that breathes life into the space, promoting cross ventilation vital for Rajasthan's climate.

Earthy terracotta tones and natural materials harmonize with Rajasthan’s landscape, creating a modern yet grounded architectural experience. ✨

📍Rayna Riverwalk Stay

This project is a genesis of an old property, the owners of which are a Royal family. The premises consist of first phase small farm home constructed 30 years back with a lot of potential to bring structure to the premises.

With the second generation initiative, the thought of creating a weekend boutique stay with part of the farm that can be opened to public lead to the design the project our studio was bestowed upon. The structure is built as an exclusive boutique stay for Rayna Riverwalk () consisting of 4 rooms only. The stay forms the part of Rayna Riverwalk Farm, at the edge of Mahi.

The structure is designed such that the structure lends a mystery of its interior until entered. The three entrances acts as a portal for the decks built on the cliff on the other side. The rooms are physically connected to the view by the wide expanse of the deck. All the covered spaces are bound together by a single continuous slab with a large 14’ feet wide overhang. The doors to all the rooms have been made in glass and wood allowing an unobstructive view from the inside.

The interiors were designed in wood and veneer to add warmth to the space. There is a wide play of wood and stone with metal in furniture. The floor has been finished with polished Kota flooring. Some of the Kota stone slabs have been engraved to give an illusion of a carpet. The walls have been finished in a subtle colour to enhance the veneer.

Salesian Residence, Banswara

A peripheral archway resembling buttresses have been designed in the outermost band of the built form. They have been added to give a touch of nostalgia (of catholic structures.) Though not of structural consequence, the arches however mask the beams that project to support the external corridor. Visually, they divide the linearity of the external facade.

The interior corridors have been kept wide and without any surficial treatment to enhance the volume of the building.

Salesian Residence, Banswara

The Axial Symmetry has been a key element for planning the built form, which is more inward looking yet open to its surroundings. The ample openings of closed spaces to the outside as well as the courtyard yet again emphasizes the importance of cross ventilation (in the dry and hot climate of Rajasthan) throughout the structure. The earthy tones of terracotta blocks and exposed bricks brings a contrast to the material palette of the ubiquitous stone of Rajasthan.

Salesian Residence, Banswara

Part of the facades have been made in terracotta jali allowing a free movement of air throughout the built form. The terracotta adds to the earthy texture of exposed bricks. The light movement throughout the day creates an interesting game of shadows.
