Urvi Shah, principal architect of Traanspace, (), used this material of primitive purity to her advantage when a family of three generations approached her to design a house that feels like a weekend home in Vadodara, Gujarat. Aware of the challenges—to create a residential property in a gated community amidst a dense fabric of foliage—Urvi attempted to explore the many possibilities that the inhabitants of this dwelling had listed for her. She says, ‘’From the very beginning, we were driven by the idea of creating a home that will be remembered not for the way it was built but for the way it made one feel’’. Layer after layer, Urvi managed to deliver the requirements of this family, who always wanted their prime residence to resonate with a great getaway.
She tells me there were neither unusual requests nor any beckoning inspiration for this space. It just had to feel like a weekend home—a place where you’d unwind after a long day without wishing you were somewhere else. So, she went wild with it, making sure the concrete stood out while blending in with its viridescent surroundings. ‘’The home is striving to constantly be in dialogue with the outside, creating an experience of living amidst the serenity of nature,’’ she adds.
