Castorina è una bottega artigiana fiorentina dove la passione per il legno si tramanda da quattro generazioni di intagliatori. Fondata nel 1895 a Catania, Castorina lega ben presto la sua storia a Firenze, dove il nonno dell’attuale proprietario Marco Castorina, apre una sede in Via Santo Spirito, nella bellissima zona dell’Oltrarno, piena di botteghe
dedite all’artigianato artistico. Il negozio fin dagli Anni Settanta diventa un punto di riferimento fra gli artigiani fiorentini ed ha esteso la sua fama molto oltre i confini della Toscana, soprattutto grazie alle creazioni ispirate alla tradizione dell’alta falegnameria dal XVI al XVIII secolo. Marco Castorina, così come prima di lui suo padre e suo nonno, ha iniziato presto a lavorare nella bottega di famiglia seguendo il motto di famiglia “la pratica é la migliore teoria” e acquisendo le abilità necessarie a padroneggiare da maestro tutte le antiche tecniche di lavorazione che rendono le creazioni di Castorina uniche e preziose. Una maestria recentemente riconosciuta anche dagli stilisti Dolce & Gabbana, che hanno voluto le creazioni di Castorina 1895 ad impreziosire l’enorme tavolo posizionato a Palazzo Vecchio nell’ambito degli eventi legati alle sfilate “Il Rinascimento e la Rinascita” a Firenze (settembre 2020) e definitivamente sancita dalla premiazione di Marco Castorina come Maestro D’Arte e Mestiere e dal suo inserimento nel Libro d’Oro dell’Eccellenza Artigiana Italiana (ottobre 2020). La produzione di Castorina 1895 spazia dagli articoli in legno naturale - come cornici, basi e gambe per tavoli, console, tavolini - ad articoli realizzati a mano pronti per l’acquisto, impreziositi da finiture che seguono da sempre la tradizione fiorentina. Doratura, laccatura e verniciatura sono eseguite unicamente a mano, esaltando nelle creazioni il senso della morbidezza e del calore intrinseco del legno. Castorina is a Florentine artistic craftsmanship shop where the passion for wood has been handed down for four generations of carvers. Founded in 1895 in Sicily, it soon linked its history to Florence, where the grandfather of the current owner Marco Castorina opened the headquarters in Via Santo Spirito, in the beautiful Oltrarno area, full of artisan’s shops. Since the 1970s, the shop has become a point of reference among Florentine artisans and has extended its fame far beyond the borders of Tuscany, especially thanks to the creations inspired by the tradition of high carpentry from the 16th to the 18th century. Marco Castorina, just like his father and grandfather before him, started working in the family workshop as a boy, following the family motto "practice is the best theory" and acquiring all the necessary skills to master the ancient techniques that make Castorina's creations unique and precious. A mastery recently recognized also by Dolce & Gabbana, who chose the creations of Castorina 1895 to embellish the huge table settled in Palazzo Vecchio, as part of the events related to the "The Renaissance and the Rebirth" fashion shows in Florence (September 2020). A mastery definitively acknowledged by the awarding of Marco Castorina as Master of Art and Craft and his inclusion in the Golden Book of Italian Artisan Excellence (October 2020). The production of Castorina 1895 ranges from natural wood items - such as frames, bases and legs for tables, consoles, coffee tables - to handmade items ready for purchase, embellished with finishes that have always followed the Florentine tradition: gilding, lacquering and painting are done only by hand, enhancing the sense of softness and intrinsic warmth of wood in the creations. Castorina also produces bespoke objects and furniture, takes care of the restoration of furniture and wooden works and interior decoration. Each Castorina 1895 creation is a unique piece, because the craftsmanship always includes some detail that makes each object different from the other.
