Last weekend Genova hosted the 97th gathering of the National Alpini Association.
It was an unexpected triumph of hospitality and good vibes, a breath of life for this city.

"Pasta e piselli" (pasta and peas) is a traditional dish of Neapolitan cuisine, and, as in the best of traditions, every family has its own recipe: some use pork belly, others add pork rind, some use iced pasta, others with cut spaghetti...
This is the one in my family with "tubettini" pasta, cooked ham and some leaves of basil.
Oh, don't forget a sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper!

A couple of dear friends surprised us with a wine tasting, and we ended up discovering a tiny gem in Carignano, Genoa.

is exactly the kind of place you hope to stumble upon—curated bottles, small producers, and lots of character. The kind of spot where you go in “just to taste” and leave already planning your next visit.

What made the experience truly special, though, was Andrea. Instantly welcoming, super passionate and competent, he guided us through a journey across Liguria—from west to east—turning a simple tasting into something memorable and personal.

Amazing wines, great stories, and that rare feeling of being completely at home.

I swear this is my last post about Valencia 🤣, but I couldn't help talking about the best Fideua and Paella Valenciana we had in town.

Before travelling to Valencia I read that in the city center there were only touristic food spots that couldn't make real local food but luckily I had to change my mind.

One of the reasons I changed my mind is because I had a great dinner with my family at Restaurante Civera

Everything we had at them was great from the delicious Anchoas “Caseras ”Serie Oro” to their pimientos de padron and obviously to the scrumptious paella valenciana and fideua de mariscos my children couldn't have enough.

Their hospitality is excellent and the bill is honest.

A special mention goes to the Ron miel valenciano and the sweets at the end of the dinner.

If you're walking around Valencia and you want to stop for a bite, have a hop at the Mercado de Colón.

There we had a very tasty lunch at !

They have an excellent and ever changing beer list, ideal for accompanying their dishes that range from jamon croquettes to papas bravas, from jamon Serrano to their memorable Bocadillo de calamares.

We will come back there for sure when we are in Valencia again.

This is my today's fridge-emptier lunch.
I had some leftover stracchino and a container of pumpkin broth in the freezer so I decided to make this stracchino and walnuts risotto with pumpkin broth.

The final touch has been to brown it for 5 minutes in the air fryer 😋

Do you like butternut squash?
This time I tried a new recipe with this vegetable.

I cut the pumpkin into slices of about 1 cm, put it in a tray lined with baking paper with a drizzle of olive oil and a pinch of salt.

Let it cook for approx 15 minutes in a static oven preheated at 200°C.

Took the tray out of the oven and coated half of the slices with speck and Crescenza cheese (you can use a soft cheese of your choice or even provola or scamorza).

At this point I covered the stuffed slices with the remaining slices and topped them with bread crumbs, freshly ground black peper and another drizzle of olive oil.

Our first night in Valencia we had a delicious dinner at .

We went there specifically for their paella, we tried the fish (del mariscos) and the Valenciana variants and we didn't regret it at all.

We also liked their croquetas de bacalao.

If you're in Valencia and you're looking for a central spot to eat quality traditional food have a hop at them!
