In 2001, Ulysse Nardin launched the Freak, the world’s first watch to feature silicon components in its escapement.

A quarter century later, and silicon is the hairspring material du jour for most high-end brands, including Rolex, Omega and Patek Philippe, all of whom prize the material for its lightweight durability and its amagnetic, thermally stable properties.

But it looks like the horological age of silicon could soon come to an end. That is, if TAG Heuer has anything to say about it.

Samsung is pulling the final plug on Galaxy Watch models powered by Tizen, with the company set to fully cut off remaining watches from their apps and watch faces.

The switch to Wear OS as the base for Samsung’s smartwatch experience has been underway for a few years now, with the end of Tizen starting back in 2021 shortly after Samsung revealed the Galaxy Watch 4 series. A 3-year support timeline was announced which, as of last year, was coming to an end for Galaxy Watch 3, the final Tizen release.

Last year, Samsung announced that it would stop selling paid apps or watch faces for Tizen-based Galaxy Watch models, and then phased out free items as well.

CES 2024, ROG PRESENTA I NUOVI LAPTOP DA GAMING STRIX E ZEPHYRUS

Oltre all'annuncio di ROG Phone 8, sul palco virtuale di ROG al CES 2024 sono stati presentati anche i nuovi laptop da gaming che ci faranno compagnia nel corso dei prossimi dodici mesi, sempre più potenti e intelligenti grazie alle nuove tecnologie di Intel, AMD e NVIDIA.

In particolare, Asus ha deciso di rinnovare la gamma Zephyrus con i nuovi G14 e G16 con i primi display ROG Nebula OLED, racchiusi in una scocca completamente in alluminio levigato su misura con tecnologia CNC, che ne aumenta la robustezza, la portabilità e la qualità costruttiva generale.

Il nuovo Zephyrus G14 ospiterà al suo interno configurazioni AMD fino al Ryzen 9 8945HS e GPU fino alla RTX 4070 di NVIDIA. Il suo display ROG Nebula OLED avrà una diagonale da 14 pollici con risoluzione custom 3K (rapporto 16:10), refresh rate fino a 120 Hz e tempi di risposta fino a 0.2 ms.
Il tutto racchiuso in una scocca spessa appena 1,59 cm per 1,5 Kg di peso.

SONY MOSTRA AL CES IL SUO VISORE SPAZIALE, CHE SI CONTROLLA CON UN ANELLO

In occasione del CES 2024, Sony ha annunciato lo sviluppo di un nuovo sistema di creazione di contenuti spaziali, progettato per consentire agli utenti di modificare e modellare oggetti in 3D mentre si indossa un visore per la realtà virtuale.

Il visore è basato sulla nuova piattaforma Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 e dotato di un display OLED 4K da 1,3 pollici con risoluzione 4K e gamma cromatica che copre il 96% dello spazio colore DCI-P3, e non si rivolge specificamente ai videogiocatori. L’amministratore Kenichiro Yoshida ha affermato che si tratta di un headset realizzato per i professionisti che lavorano in ambiente 3D, e consente a chi lo indossa di “sovrapporre oggetti virtuali in spazi fisici”.

Presente anche la funzione di split rendering, che può distribuire il calcolo di rendering tra computer e visore.

ANALIZZANO 3000 DENTI VICHINGHI E SCOPRONO QUALCOSA DI INCREDIBILE

Uno studio recente ha portato alla luce dettagli sorprendenti sull'odontoiatria praticata dai Vichinghi circa mille anni fa. I ricercatori dell'Università di Göteborg e del Museo Västergötlands in Svezia hanno analizzato 3.293 denti di 171 Vichinghi, tra cui bambini e adulti.

Quello che hanno scoperto è incredibile: i Vichinghi non lasciavano i loro denti in balia del destino, ma praticavano una cura dentale sorprendentemente avanzata. Gli esami moderni, inclusi scansioni a raggi X e sonde dentali, hanno rivelato che questo popolo modificava i loro "masticatori" in vari modi. Tra questi, l'uso di stuzzicadenti, la limatura dei denti anteriori e persino il trattamento di quelli infetti.

SAMSUNG, L'IA È OVUNQUE: ANCHE NEL FRIGORIFERO E NELLA LAVASCIUGA

In occasione della conferenza tenuta al CES 2024 di Las Vegas, Samsung ha svelato la propria visione “AI per tutti”, che come suggerisce il nome mira a portare l’intelligenza artificiale su tutti i propri prodotti allo scopo di migliorare la vita delle persone.

Ad essere interessata da questa visione c’è anche la cucina e gli elettrodomestici. Sempre nel corso della conferenza in corso nella città del Nevada, il colosso coreano ha anche presentato il frigorifero BeSpoke AI Family Hub con quattro porte, che integra uno schermo da 32 pollici e dispone dell’AI Vision Inside che utilizza una camera interna per riconoscere 33 alimenti e suggerire le ricette. Gli utenti avranno anche la possibilità di impostare “utilizzo per data” sullo schermo per ricevere delle notifiche quando la data di scadenza dell’alimento si avvicina. Questa nuove funzioni d’intelligenza artificiale aiutano ad adottare uno stile di vita più responsabile dal punto di vista ambientale.
