In Punta dell’Olmo, materiality is expressed through contrasts between glossy and matte surfaces, chrome finishes and burnished brass, and above all through tactile qualities: the coarse hand-troweled resin flooring and the lime plaster walls treated with Marseille soap according to traditional methods.

The bedroom is more intimate, clad in wood from floor to ceiling like a continuous shell that envelops and protects.

The atmosphere hovers between two references: the cabin of an ocean liner and the tatami room of a traditional Japanese home.

For the Punta dell’Olmo residence, Eligo Studio designed a series of display pedestals inspired by the easels of Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978), an Italian architect and designer renowned for his meticulous attention to detail and his innovative exhibition designs.

As with Scarpa’s easels, these pedestals transform the display structure into an autonomous presence within the space, capable of dialoguing with both the artwork and the surrounding architecture.

In the living room of the Punta dell’Olmo residence a “Sottilissima n°7” by Pietro Consagra sits on the table in the living area, becoming a quiet focal point within the space.

The work reflects the research of Italian sculptor Pietro Consagra, one of the leading figures of international abstraction, who developed the concept of “frontal sculpture”: extremely thin surfaces that engage directly with space and the viewer.

The bespoke furnishings function as integrated storage systems, coordinated between the living and sleeping areas.

The craftsmanship is tailored in nature: textile raffia cabinet fronts, rounded walnut profiles, and an absence of superfluous ornamentation.

In the living room of Punta dell’Olmo residence sits the Free System sofa by Acerbis.

Originally designed in 1973 by Claudio Salocchi for Skipper, Free System reimagines the living area as a flexible landscape of seating. Inspired by the logic of the Japanese tatami, its modular elements can be freely combined.

For Eligo Studio, this project has a special meaning.

Working once again within the Via Muratori building was an opportunity to reconnect with an architecture they deeply admire and to continue a long-term dialogue with its values of clarity, flexibility, and material honesty.

A project that reflects the studio’s way of working: listening to what already exists and responding with care, precision, and restraint.

The project is grounded in a deep respect for the original architecture by Passarelli and Chiodi, enhancing its inherent spatial flexibility while preserving authentic materials such as exposed brick, textured plaster, and reinforced concrete.

A careful, filological approach where space, matter, and light remain the true protagonists.

“Raw materials, spaces reduced to their essence, and a spatial flexibility that anticipated the contemporary fluid home by half a century.”
