Established in 1990, Produzione Privata is Michele De Lucchi's design research project, and part of the architecture studio AMDL CIRCLE. Produzione Privata was founded in Italy by Michele De Lucchi and Sibylle Kicherer as an experimental design company. By cultivating experimentation we foster the processes of non-static open thinking, circular thinking between creative minds, where the obvious is

not present and varied repetition is understood as a possibility to give form to what we consider impossible. Such a process turns perspectives upside down in order to search for solutions that have not yet been explored. Produzione Privata supports and encourages collaboration with craftsmen and promotes the need for experimentation to produce objects that enhance the human hand and the essence of materials.

The Editions are limited-series objects by Michele De Lucchi for Produzione Privata. They challenge categories, explore new perspectives, and experiment, like Kilim Ingiustificabili Esigenze, 2008, a tribute to Ettore Sottsass’s final lesson and a long-held creative obsession. Created by the handwoven expertise of Indian artisans, these 7 kilims marked the birth of our Fabric Workshop. They were conceived not just as floor coverings, but as maps of architectural light and warmth to hang on walls or divide open spaces.

As recalls, where Sottsass saw “unjustifiable exigencies”, he found something entirely essential.
