August is when I take a little time away from the shop…

Luckily, I’ve left the shop in very good hands, so Pretty Okay is still open as usual, 10am–4pm, while I’m away. ❤️

The candles, the orders, the emails, the stock, the lists… they’ll all still be there when I get home.

But these moments with my boys won’t.

When you run a small business, switching off can be surprisingly hard.
There’s always another job, another idea, another thing you could be doing — and that little voice telling you that you should probably be doing more.

So I’m making myself press pause.

Putting the phone down (mostly 😂), stepping away from Pretty Okay and enjoying some proper family time in Croatia. 🇭🇷☀️🌊

I’m incredibly grateful for every single person who supports Pretty Okay 🥰
I genuinely love what I do, but I’m also learning that rest isn’t time wasted.

Sometimes it’s when the best ideas come.

When you stop rushing, give your brain some space and actually enjoy the life you’re working hard to build.

So for now… the shop can wait.

I’ve got sea to swim in, wine to drink, ice cream to eat and boys to embarrass. 😂🍷🍦

And maybe a few new ideas will find me while I’m here. 😉

WHY CAN’T I SMELL MY REED DIFFUSER ANYMORE? 👀

Our Reed diffusers are wonderfully low maintenance, but they’re not no maintenance — and a few tiny changes can make a huge difference to how much fragrance you get from yours.

✨ Placement matters
✨ Room size matters
✨ More reeds = more fragrance
✨ Fresh reeds work better
✨ Heat can make it disappear faster
✨ And yes… you really do need to flip those reeds!

And then there’s nose blindness 👃 — when you LOVE a fragrance so much that your brain basically decides “yep, we know this one” and stops noticing it. Meanwhile, everyone walking into your house can still smell it!

One of the biggest compliments our little shop can receive?

It’s not just when someone walks through the door…

It’s when they come back a year later.

This week we’ve been lucky enough to welcome so many returning visitors, mostly from the UK, Guernsey and French day trippers who make visiting Pretty Okay part of their annual trip to Jersey.

Every time someone says, “We couldn’t leave without coming to see you,” it genuinely catches me off guard.

The thing that’s made me smile even more is hearing that they’re taking candles, diffusers and other scented treats home for family and friends because someone walked into their house, said, “What smells so amazing in here?” and now they all want one too. 😂

I love the thought that our little products are ending up in homes all over far and wide and becoming part of people’s everyday lives.

For a small independent business, that’s a really special feeling, and it’s something I’ll never take for granted.

Thank you to everyone who has popped in this week, whether it was your first visit or your tenth. Your support means the world to us.

A lovely thing that happened this week was meeting a 17-year-old student who walked into the shop to introduce himself and his ‘Summer, saving to go travelling’ business.

He confidently showed me this Google review plaque he’d designed, explained how it worked, and asked if I’d like to buy one.

Of course I said yes.

It wasn’t just the product—it was his confidence, initiative and willingness to walk into local businesses and put himself out there.
That takes courage, especially at 17. 👏🏻

We all talk about supporting local, but it’s just as important to support young people who are willing to have a go and learn by doing.

He’s got a great idea, and I genuinely hope more businesses give him a few minutes of their time.
