Welcome to FineLines

A big welcome to Chris, the newest member of the FineLines Decor team. 👊

Over the last few days, Chris has been getting stuck in and learning the world of Venetian finishes, spending time on training and working through a whole range of different materials and techniques.

It’s been great watching him get hands-on with the products, understand how they behave, and start building the skills that will allow him to take his work to the next level.

But training isn’t all about the trowel. We’ve also had plenty of laughs, good food, music, swimming in the North Sea and some proper time together along the way. 🌊🎶

For me, building FineLines isn’t just about creating beautiful walls. It’s about building a team of people who are passionate about the craft, willing to learn, and enjoy being part of the journey.

Chris has already shown plenty of the right attitude, and I’m looking forward to seeing where this takes him.

Welcome to the team, Chris. This is just the beginning.

A little progress update from this project.

I promised I’d share more this week, although visually there hasn’t been a huge amount to show just yet.

With finishes like these, not every stage gives you the dramatic before-and-after photo. A lot of the work happens in the preparation, detailing and getting each surface exactly where it needs to be before the final finish starts bringing everything together.

The three bathrooms are continuing to take shape using Viero Oltre microcement, and I’m really looking forward to showing these properly once the final details are complete.

Sometimes the quieter stages of a project are the ones that make the biggest difference to the finished result.

Progress across all three bathrooms.

The style base coat is now applied throughout, and all three rooms are coming along really nicely.

At this stage it’s about slowing things down and paying attention to the details. Tomorrow we’ll be carrying out the detail sanding before moving onto the topcoat, where the finish will really start to take shape.

It’s always good to see the rooms progressing through each layer. What starts as preparation gradually becomes the finished surface, and every stage plays its part in the final result.

More progress from all three bathrooms to come later this week.

Progress Update | Three Bathrooms, One Complete System

It’s been another productive start to the week on site, and I’m thoroughly enjoying seeing this project come together.

These three bathrooms are now at the preparation stage, where attention to detail makes all the difference to the finished result.

A huge thank you to Focus Carpentry for the excellent installation of the cement boards throughout. The quality of the workmanship has provided the perfect substrate for us to continue with the next phase.

We’re also using Resin Rock shower trays, which complement the Oltre microcement system perfectly, allowing us to create a clean, contemporary finish with minimal transitions and a beautifully integrated shower area.

Every joint and screw head has been carefully flush filled before being sanded smooth, creating a seamless surface ready for the application of the Viero Decoratives Oltre Microcement system. While Oltre is designed as a waterproof system when installed to the manufacturer’s specification, achieving a flawless finish always starts with meticulous preparation.

Another detail I’m particularly looking forward to is installing the brass transition profiles between the microcement floors, these were supplied by Tailored Floor & Interiors. It’s a subtle feature, but one that will create a beautiful, uninterrupted flow between each room while adding warmth and elegance to the overall design.

These are the stages that rarely get seen, but they’re the foundation of a finish that’s built to last.

I’m genuinely enjoying this project and can’t wait to share the finished transformation once the sanitaryware, brassware and final details are in place.

There was a moment I looked at a wall and realised I didn’t just want to decorate walls. I wanted to create them.

That decision led me into the world of Venetian plaster, microcement and handcrafted decorative finishes. From hidden damage to velvety elegance.

This project began with the removal of multiple layers of failed and moisture-damaged wallpaper, revealing a wall that needed extensive preparation before any decorative finish could begin. Every unstable surface was carefully stripped back, repaired, sealed, and refined to create a sound foundation worthy of the final result.

Once the substrate was fully restored, we applied Viero Silk, a premium decorative finish that delivers soft movement, depth, and a subtle reflective quality.
