First things first, get the outside of your home ready.
Check your roof, secure loose roofing materials, reinforce vulnerable windows and doors, and bring in outdoor furniture, tools and other loose items.
Now, turn your attention to drainage.
Clear leaves and debris from gutters and drains, check areas where water tends to collect and make sure water can flow safely away from your home.
Next, get the essentials in place before you need them.
Charge phones and devices, keep flashlights and batteries ready, store clean water and make sure water tanks are properly secured.
If you use a generator, test it ahead of time and ensure fuel is safely stored.
Now, make sure you’re ready for quick repairs too.
Keep tarpaulins, rope, duct tape, nails, screws and basic tools somewhere dry and easy to reach.
Protect important documents and valuables in waterproof containers as well.
