今週5月14日(木)より、象彦 京都本店 2階サロンにて「The Heritage Archive — Chapter 01」を開催いたします。
通常は非公開のアーカイブピースを、十代当主・西村彦兵衛自らが選び抜き、その背景にある物語を皆様に直接語りかけます。

漆が刻んできた時、そして職人の情熱。それらが現代の空間で放つ輝きを、ぜひ間近でご体感ください。

本展は、予約不要でどなたでもご覧いただけます。
京都の初夏のひととき、皆様とお会いできるのを楽しみにしております。

Unveiling 365 years of history and weaving it into the future.
Starting this Thursday, May 14th, we are honored to present "The Heritage Archive — Chapter 01" at our private salon on the 2nd floor of Zohiko’s Kyoto Main Shop.
The 10th Generation Master, Hikobei Nishimura, has personally selected rare archive pieces usually closed to the public. He will be there to share the profound stories and craftsmanship behind each work.
Experience the timeless beauty of lacquer and the passion of artisans, radiating within a contemporary space.
This exhibition is open to all with no reservation required. We look forward to welcoming you for an intimate dialogue in the heart of early summer Kyoto.

端午の節句が近づいてきました。

本日は、そんな季節にぴったりの「跳ね鯉」を描いた紙刀（しとう）をご紹介します。

水面から勢いよく飛び跳ねる鯉の姿。
「昇鯉（しょうり）」という響きから、勝負運や合格祈願の縁起物としても親しまれてきました。

こちらの紙刀は、鯉の鱗一枚一枚まで細やかに描き込み、波しぶきは金から銀へと美しいグラデーション（ぼかし）を施しています。

「紙刀（しとう）」とは？
かつて文箱や硯箱には、書き終えた巻紙を切り離すための小さな刀が添えられていました。その伝統的な道具を、ペーパーナイフとして復刻させたのがこの一品です。
手紙を開封するひとときを、少し特別な時間に変えてくれる上質な輝き。大人の書斎を彩る静かなアクセントとしていかがでしょうか。

As Children’s Day (Tango no Sekku) approaches, we introduce a Sh*to (Paper Knife) adorned with a spirited "leaping carp" in Makie lacquerware.

In Japanese tradition, the carp is a symbol of strength and perseverance, inspired by the legend that a carp climbing a waterfall eventually transforms into a dragon. The term for a rising carp, Shori, also shares the same sound as the word for "victory," making it a cherished charm for success and good fortune.

Every detail is crafted with precision—from the individual scales of the carp to the elegant gold-to-silver gradient of the waves.

The Sh*to has its roots in traditional calligraphy sets, originally used to cut scrolls. We have revived this historical tool as a modern paper knife to add a touch of refined elegance to your study or workspace.

江戸初期、伝説の塗師・藤重藤厳が究めた「中次」の棗。

それは、300年以上前の職人が竹を素地に、現代の最新機械でも難しいほどの薄さと精密さで作り上げた、究極のミニマリズムのかたちです。

蒔絵を得意としてきた象彦が、あえて装飾を手放し、極限のシンプルに挑む。それは再現ではなく、再創造です。

このかたちが、いまの時代にどう響くのか。
十代当主・彦兵衛が、その“感覚”を確かめるための試みが始まりました。

京都随一の木地師である西村直木氏をはじめ、職人と共に命が吹き込まれる過程をこれから少しずつ共有していきます。

京都は桜の開花を迎え、お店のある寺町通りも
春の賑わいに包まれてきました。
今日は新作「桜丸小箱」をご紹介いたします。

金蒔絵で、あふれるように描かれた桜。
この意匠は象彦に古くから残る「置目」から生まれました。

置目（おきめ）とは、蒔絵の下絵のこと。薄い和紙に描いた図案の輪郭をなぞり、器に写し取る——
漆器づくりの始まりにある、大切な工程です。

今回の桜は、もともとお椀のための図案を小箱へと写し替え、ふたたびかたちになったもの。

しべの細部に至るまで忠実に表現し、春の華やぎを閉じ込めたような一品に仕上がりました。

We are pleased to introduce our new piece,
the “Sakura Round Box.”

Overflowing with cherry blossoms in gold maki-e,
this design is based on a historic okime—
a preparatory drawing used in the maki-e process.

Originally created for a bowl,
it has been reinterpreted here as a small box.

Even the finest details are faithfully rendered,
capturing the elegance of the season.

雛祭りにちなみ、12ヶ月冷酒杯シリーズの3月の冷酒杯は檜扇と梅をあしらった雅な意匠から「雛月（ひいなつき）」と名付けました。

杯の中に描かれた檜扇は、お雛様が手にする扇。
檜扇は金箔と色漆で、梅は朱漆で表現しています。
ふと視線を移すと別の場所にも梅が現れる、ささやかな発見も。

お誕生月のペアでプレゼントにも喜ばれます。

In celebration of Hinamatsuri (Girls’ Day),
the March cup from our 12-month sake cup series is named “Hiinazuki.”

Inside, a cypress fan — held by the Hina dolls — is rendered in gold leaf and colored urushi lacquer, with plum blossoms in vermilion.
Look closely and you’ll discover blossoms appearing in unexpected places.

A thoughtful gift, especially as a birth-month pair.
