「梅雨（つゆ）」という言葉には、実は美しい由来があります。
中国では、湿気が多くカビが生えやすい時期の雨を「黴雨（ばいう）」と呼び、後に同じ読みの「梅雨」という字が使われるようになりました。
日本では、梅の実が熟す頃に降る雨、そして草花に宿る“露”のイメージと重なり、「つゆ」と呼ばれるようになったとも言われています。
なんとも日本らしい、繊細で美しい言葉ですね。
