A masterful sake set crafted by Kusuo Baba, the second-generation head of the renowned Shinemon Kiln in Arita.
This work, titled “Landscape of Mountains”, embodies the grandeur of distant peaks seen against the vast horizon. The flowing red hues of cinnabar glaze express mountain ranges, while the deep, black tenmoku glaze evokes the depth of the sky. Together, they create a striking contrast and a sense of profound depth—as if gazing into nature’s eternal beauty.

The Shinemon Kiln is celebrated as a pioneer in the art of “Yohen” glazes, where colors and patterns naturally transform inside the kiln to reveal unpredictable, breathtaking effects. Kusuo Baba himself continues this legacy, capturing the majesty of nature within his works.

This exceptional sake set (tokkuri and guinomi) is available exclusively at Japanese Pottery in Tokyo, just a 7-minute walk from Ebisu Station. A one-of-a-kind piece not to be missed.

✨ The Art of Light and Foil — Mt. Fuji in Arita Porcelain ✨

This framed porcelain artwork captures the iconic Mt. Fuji with an extraordinary technique that blends gold, platinum, silver, and iridescent foils. Created by master artisan Tatsuro Ono (Kozan Kiln), it embodies a rare harmony of traditional craftsmanship and innovative expression.

Each foil—delicately hammered hundreds of times until paper-thin—is carefully applied by hand using natural lacquer, then fired at around 200°C. The process requires not only patience but also impeccable timing and skill, as multiple colors cannot be applied at once.

The shimmering golden sky, the misty mountains, and the soft curves of clouds and pine ridges come alive with a depth and warmth that only foil can produce. The artwork transforms with the changing light of day, offering a different beauty from morning to evening.

This one-of-a-kind piece is available exclusively at our store Japanese Pottery in Tokyo, just a 7-minute walk from Ebisu Station. Perfect for collectors, gifts, or as a statement piece in your home.

This is a work by Kitamura Fukuji, a certified Traditional Craftsman of Arita ware. Born in 1932, Kitamura has already passed the age of 90 and has retired from his creative activities.

A one-of-a-kind masterpiece of the highest quality, never to be reproduced again. It is proudly presented by Eiichi Kusaba, an Arita-born buyer with deep knowledge and passion for the craft.

Kitamura Fukuji built a long career as a specialist in porcelain painting. In his early thirties, he became independent, establishing his own studio and producing numerous celebrated works.

This piece features a stunning combination of bold peony motifs and the traditional “Shippō” (Seven Treasures) pattern, a symbol of good fortune. Having long since retired, most of Kitamura’s works have already found their way into private collections. This particular piece, however, was once exhibited in an art show and held special significance for Kitamura himself, which is why it had been carefully preserved until now.

Vase “Ruri Blue” — a breathtaking creation from the renowned Shinemon Kiln in Arita, celebrated for its mastery of glazes.

This vibrant cobalt blue piece, named Ruri, showcases the kiln’s signature ability to bring out deep, luminous colors through expert glaze techniques. Although compact in size (H: 16.7 cm / 6.6 in, W: 15.5 cm / 6.1 in), it makes a striking statement, perfect for apartment spaces, entryways, or as a refined interior accent.

Each Ruri vase is unique — even with the same glaze, the hue and pattern vary every time it’s made. This particular piece was personally selected by Mr. Kusaba, owner of Japanese Pottery in Tokyo, directly from the kiln.

Available now at our shop, just a 7-minute walk from Ebisu Station in Tokyo.

Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese technique for repairing ceramics. It involves mending broken or chipped pottery with lacquer, which is then dusted with gold or silver powder. This technique is not just about fixing the item but also embracing the breakage as a part of the object's history, adding new value and beauty to it.

The allure of kintsugi lies in the idea that the damage becomes a beautiful aspect of the piece, transforming it into something even more valuable than before. The gold or silver lines that are added to the ceramic give it a unique and storied appearance. This technique is closely related to the Japanese aesthetic concept of "wabi-sabi," which finds beauty in imperfection and impermanence.
