雛人形をつくる、はじめの工程。
生地に、型紙となる和紙を裏打ちしていきます。

水で薄めた糊を、和紙に均一に引いていく職人技。

人形の着物として仕上がったときの柄の出方を緻密に計算しながら、
何種類ものパーツを一つひとつ丁寧に貼っていきます。

The very first step in making a hina doll.
Washi paper, cut to the pattern, is backed onto the fabric.

Glue thinned with water, drawn evenly across the paper. A craftsman's skill.

Calculating precisely how each pattern will fall once it becomes the doll's kimono,
we lay down many kinds of pieces, one by one.

だからだろうか、いにしえの雅の香りが漂う。

ぼんぼりはもともと外灯で、
江戸の中頃、上流階級が室内でも使うようになった。
「雪洞」と書いて、ぼんぼり。
雪のほこらと形が似ていることからの、当て字だと伝わる。

小さな灯りひとつにも、長い物語が宿っている。

Beside the hina dolls glow the bonbori and the yutō.
Both are lamps, yet the paths they have taken differ a little.

The yutō, an oil lamp, has lit indoor rooms since the Heian era.
Perhaps that is why it carries the scent of ancient elegance.

The bonbori began as an outdoor lamp;
from the mid-Edo period, the upper classes brought it indoors.
"Bonbori" is written with the characters meaning "snow hollow,"
said to be borrowed simply because the two resemble each other in shape.

Even a single small light holds a long story within.
