50 days of Roots....
2. The Wailing Souls - Wild suspense/ Best of Wailing Soul.

After some technical difficulties back with a double shot of 50 days of Roots...
2 albums from the quartet of the vocal harmony trio's 🤔....
Wild suspense is their second album and released in 1979 on Island records.
Produced by Wailing Souls.
Almost every track is a bona fide classic with stunning vocal performances and backed by the finest musicians around. Comes with my favorite track, Bredda Gravalicious.
The best of released in 1984 on Channel One (US).
All tracks recorded between 1970 and 1978.
Recorded and mixed at Channel One (Jamaica).
Got some overlaps with Wild suspense, but with tracks like Very well i am not complaining..

ARTIST OF THE DAY

50 days of Roots....
#49. Linton Kwesi Johnson - Bass culture.

A year after the release of Forces of victory in 1979 came the successor Bass culture.
Recorded at Gooseberry sound studio, mixed by Dennis Bovell, and produced by LKJ and Blackbeard.
Considered as bit of a disapointment at the time because it doesn't seem to have the high and explosiveness of Forces of...
Listening to it nowadays you can only conclude that Bass culture is a tremendous album that might not that political and confrontational.
But on the other hand there are tunes like Inglan is a bitch , Di black petty booshwah and Street 66 (that bassline!) that set the tone.
And with Loraine as a potential chart buster there is no other conclusion that this is another Dub Roots poetry classic.

ARTIST OF THE DAY

50 days of Roots.....
#48. Culture - International Herb.

Released in 1979 on Virgin records, produced by Sonia Pottinger, recorded at Treasure Isle, engineered by Errol Brown and backed by The Revolutionairies.
Although not in the same class as Two sevens clash or Baldhead bridge , still a mighty fine album with a excellent sound quality.
Got a handfull of Joseph Hill written Culture classics like the title track ,Jah Rastafari, Rally around Jahoviah's trone and the fantastic Too long in slavery.

SONG OF THE DAY

50 days of Roots......
#46. Gregory Isaacs - Extra classic/Soon forward ( double shot).

Two great albums from a time there was no limit to the Cool ruler.
Extra classic is a magnificent compilation of 45's all recorded between 1974 - 1977 on conflict records.
Done is different studio's with different producers and backing bands.
Nicely balanced between love songs and more cultural dread affairs.
It's the sheer quality of the songs that makes this one not just another compilation album.
Tracks like My religion ,Black against Black ,Rasta Business , Jailer jailer , Extra classic ,Mr Cop and Warrior makes this album special one.
Soon forward is probably his best studio album.
Released on Virgin Frontline in 1979 ,recorded at Channel One and produced by the man himself, except for the monumental title track that was done by Sly and Robbie.
Backed by an all star line up with Dennis Brown, Leroy Sibbles and Junior Delgado on backing vocals.
Love songs and cultural themes in perfect harmony.
Known for his pained purity beautiful vocal tone, Isaacs graces the microphone with every passing phrase.
Soon forward stands on the cross road of Roots ,Dub and Dancehall and due to the fantastic songs stood the test of time.

SONG OF THE DAY

50 days of Roots....
#13. Prince Far I - Under heavy manners.

One of the finest albums of the voice of thunder!
Released in 1977 on Joe Gibbs record globe, and untill the mid 90's when it got revived on the Rocky one label was almost impossible to find.
Nowadays you can find a reiissue quite easy for a descent price.
One of his finest and a nice example of heavy Dub Roots.
His rough and powerful voice give the songs an extra rebelious charge.
And if that's not enough there are excellent vocal participations by Joseph Hill and Dennis Brown, what brengservice some more Light into the tracks.
10 militant, heavyweight tracks, a fine example of.....Wicked stuff!

SONG OF THE DAY

50 days of Roots.....
#44. Steel pulse - Caught you.

Following after Handsworth revolution and Tribute to the martyrs this one was received with a bit more skepticism.
It says more about the first two ( absolute classic) than about this one.
Released in 1980 on Island records and produced by Geoffrey Chung.
It's a Steel pulse through and through filled with heavy messages and politically charged ,and a couple of love songs.
The overall sound is glossy, fresh and sprightly with as always the very recognizable backing vocals.
Compared with their earlier work this one is a bit poppier.
Got some outstanding tracks on it like Drug squad, Harrassment, Heart of stone, Caught you and Nyahbinghi voyage.
