Great organisations build spaces that reflect what they stand for. Many businesses believe in sustainability and that is reflected in their space.

Below are three practical ways to incorporate sustainability in interior design:

First, through material accountability. Specifying sustainably sourced timber, low-VOC finishes, and materials that can be disassembled and repurposed rather than sent to landfill.

Second, through indoor environmental quality. Air that is actually clean, ventilation that brings in fresh air rather than recycling stale air, and natural light that keeps people sharp and energised throughout the day.

Third, through biophilic design. The deliberate introduction of plants, natural textures, and living elements that lower cortisol, reduce stress, and restore the kind of focus that no productivity tool can manufactures.

The attached images exhibit projects where sustainability was a core focus. Read the full piece where we go through these points in detail and give real project examples on our website. https://planninginteriors.com/sustainability-in-interior-design-in-2026/

Happy Earth Day from Planning Interiors Ltd.

Earth Day is a reminder that the choices we make today shape the world we live in tomorrow. That is why we remain committed to creating spaces that are beautiful, functional, and environmentally conscious.

For us, sustainability is more than a trend. It is embedded in the way we approach design and fit-out solutions, as we consciously incorporate sustainable ideas, materials, and systems that support both human wellbeing and environmental responsibility.

As we mark Earth Day, we remain committed to creating spaces that inspire people while respecting the planet we all share.

Step inside a space that was designed with intention. From natural light spilling across soft finishes to greenery anchoring you to something living, every corner whispers sustainability and serenity.

This space was shaped by a vision that refused to choose between roots and ambition. Glocal by design — Kenyan materials chosen with care, local artwork commissioned to speak from the walls, every finish and texture a quiet nod to the culture it sits within. And beneath all of that beauty, the technical rigour of a globally competitive build. Air quality engineered to protect. Energy systems designed to endure. HVAC considered down to the breath.

Diversity and equality weren’t layered on at the end. They were foundational — woven into the philosophy of the space before the first line was drawn.

No design element was accidental. The air flows cleaner, the light works harder, the materials carry less weight on the earth. Biophilic design pulls the outside in, blurring the line between nature and workspace until focus comes naturally and creativity

PIL listened first. We asked the right questions, held the vision with both hands, and carried it across the finish line without diluting a single principle.

How Does Office Layout Affect Productivity?

1. Rigid Rows of Desks Without Purpose

Design Tip: Create zoned spaces; quiet work zones, collaborative areas, and transition spaces that guide movement and focus.

2. Ignoring Natural Light & Movement

Design Tip: Keep open sight lines to windows, place desks to maximize daylight, and use glass partitions to let light travel deeper into the office.

3. One-Size-Fits-All Open Space

Design Tip: Add quiet pods, sound-absorbing elements, and soft barriers so teams aren’t stuck fighting noise all day.

Through strategic layout planning, improved circulation, layered lighting and considered material selection, we transformed the space into a workplace that reflects scale, professionalism and leadership.
We believe design decisions should always be driven by insight.
