My dear brothers and sisters,
I write this letter with a heavy heart, as I am deeply saddened about what the nation we love is going through again. Gunfire is frequently heard near our borders, and the fear of war that we know all too well has come once again to haunt us. Our country is healing from the wounds of past wars, but it is facing novel challenges, and our people are going through tough times. It truly makes me extremely sad to see our nation get involved in another conflict, not because we want to, but because we are being attacked. Thai soldiers came into our land, nevertheless our brave defenders stayed put. We are firm in our claims, but the thought of more violence, mothers mourning their sons, and children having to live in a world full of conflict is very concerning to me.
We Cambodians have been through enough. We know what it's like to lose loved ones, be scared of violence, and have to rebuild a country that has been torn apart by years of war. Do we need to go back to this difficult situation? Is it necessary for kids to have to deal with more sadness?
I am not writing out of anger, I write out of deep sadness and a wish for peace. War will not bring victory, it will only bring more graves, more broken families, and wounds that may never heal. Cambodia does not want war, we just want to live with dignity in a place where our people can thrive without being afraid.
I pray that the guns will stop firing soon and that peace will return to our beautiful homeland. I have tears in my eyes and hope in my heart. Our leaders will seek justice with wisdom instead of violence (អរគុណសន្ដិភាព).
With heartfelt condolences and a spirit of unity,
