KHUAN Pavilion at Siam discovery, Bangkok Design Week 2026
thanks to XYZ art center for giving us this opportunity
KHUAN is a living spiritual concept deeply rooted in Lao culture, passed down through generations as a way of understanding the relationship between mind, body, and spirit.
Khuan Pavilion emerges from a contemplation of the existence of the khuan— a presence without form or substance, yet deeply bound to human life. When the khuan loses its way, it cannot return to its owner by itself. A Baci (Su Khuan) ceremony thus becomes a bridge between the visible world and the unseen. This circular pavilion is conceived as a sacred threshold. Formed from layered paper adorned with white floral motifs, it is a space where sight is subdued, where color and form dissolve, allowing other senses —sound, scent, and feeling—to take their place. Within this space, the khuan does not depart; it drifts and lingers, suspended between being lost and being called back. Its endless circling becomes an act of waiting— for the ritual utterance, softly spoken, to guide the khuan back toward its owner once more
