Finally, animals no longer have to run for their lives for human entertainment.

Scotland made history by becoming the first part of the UK to ban hunting with dogs, choosing compassion over cruelty.

For generations, wild animals were chased, terrified, and treated like sport instead of living beings who feel fear and pain.

In 2023, the bill was officially passed, closing the door on one of the cruelest traditions still harming wildlife.

This wasn't just a law change. It was a powerful stand for kindness, proving that protecting animals matters more than outdated practices.

One brave step - and hopefully many more countries will follow.

Germany doesn’t just ask, “Do you want a puppy?” It asks, “Are you ready for the next 10-15 years?”

In parts of the country, new dog owners have to prove basic know-how before they bring a dog home. In Lower Saxony, a “proof of competence” has been required since July 1, 2013, with a theory test and a practical part to show you can handle everyday situations safely.

Berlin takes a different approach. Dogs generally have to stay on a leash in public spaces, with exceptions like designated dog parks.

If you want more freedom, you can apply for an off-leash exemption, which involves showing you have the right knowledge and control.

It can sound strict, but the idea is simple: fewer impulse decisions, better care, and fewer dogs ending up rehomed when things get hard.

From ending animal testing to making animal cruelty a federal felony, real change finally reached animals who had no voice.

These weren't symbolic gestures. They were laws that created lasting protection and challenged practices that caused suffering behind closed doors. For animals, this meant fewer lives harmed and more accountability.

In 2018, the dog and cat meat trade was banned nationwide in the U.S. as part of the Farm Bill, ending a practice many didn't realize still existed.

Then in 2019, animal cruelty became a federal felony with the signing of the PACT Act, making severe abuse a serious crime across the country, not just a minor offense.

Funding for painful military experiments on animals was further cut through defense legislation signed in 2025, helping limit the use of dogs and cats in government-funded testing.

You don't have to agree with everything someone stands for to recognize when animals are protected. When laws reduce suffering and save lives, animals are the ones who truly win.
