For ten nights each Esala full moon period, Kandy doesn't sleep. Families claim their spots on the kerb by early afternoon. When the streets go dark, the drummers arrive — and behind them a procession of elephants, dancers and fire performers march through this city as they have done for centuries.

Our Kandy Perahera Posters are a tribute to those nights. Tuskers in crimson and gold caparisons moving slowly past the Temple of the Tooth. Kandyan dancers in silver headdress, arms outstretched against a yellow sky. Masked figures mid-step, and the white-clad drummers who set the whole procession moving.

Each poster highlights the timeless charm of Sri Lanka's most famous pageant.

Classic Ceylon Travel Posters - 1938 to 1948

In 1938, the Ceylon Government Tourist Bureau held a competition to choose the best posters that highlighted the beauty of Ceylon. A decade later, in 1948, they held another poster competition. Two Ceylonese artists, G. S. Fernando and C. K. L Samarasinha, won every prize. This was the golden era of Poster design in Ceylon when her beauty was captured not through a camera lens, but through the brush and a lithographic press.
