The footprints of Rama at the spot where he aimed and shot at Vaali🏹

This is one of the unexplored places around Hampi. This is located at the Chintamani Temple complex, Anegundi.

Story Behind the picture ( Why Rama Killed Vali):

Vali was an extremely brave Monkey who had a powerful boon from Lord Brahma.Vali ousted Sugriva from the throne of Kiskinda and took his wife Ruma for himself. Sugriva was scared of his brother’s rage and ran away from Kiskinda to the Matanga hills the only place where Vali could not go (Due to the curse Vali had). Now Sugriva or anyone else could not defeat Vali because of his divine boon. Vali’s boon empowered him to such an extent that, anyone who would face him for a fight would lose their strength. Vali would also gain half the strength of his enemy.

Sugriva came across Lord Rama who was in search of his wife Sita. They agreed to help each other. Rama would help Sugriva retain the throne of Kiskinda and in return Sugriva would help find Sita.

Lord Rama asked Sugriva to draw out Vali from Kiskinda and challenge him to a fight. Sugriva did so and Vali answered his challenge. When Vali was fighting Sugriva, Sugriva had to wear a garland so that Rama would be able to distinguish him from Vali. Then he shot an arrow through Vali’s heart (without facing him) and Vali died.

When a dying Vali asked Rama why he killed him from behind a tree. Rama replied that he had King Bharath’s permission to kill anyone for Dharma. Vali was Adharmic as he had attacked his younger brother, seized his throne and his wife too. Rama also reasoned that since Vali was a monkey or Vanara, he was an animal who could be hunted while hiding (just like a dear). After Vali’s death Sugriva reclaimed the throne of Kishkinda and raised Vali’s son Angad. Rama had thus killed Vali for the restoration of Dharma or righteousness.
