The Sinhala word “Narilatha” combines “Nari” (woman) and “Latha” (vine or creeper), creating a poetic term meaning “female vine” or “woman-like creeper.” This evokes elegance, grace, and delicate beauty, qualities reflected in both traditional Sri Lankan art and in nature. In art and craft, Narilatha motifs—depicting flowers and vines—adorn carvings, textiles, and paintings, symbolizing beauty, growth, and a deep connection to nature. The term also names Habenaria crinifera, an orchid found in South Asia, including Sri Lanka and India. Known as Narilatha in Sinhala, this orchid features delicate white or pale green flowers with long, fringed, thread-like petals, embodying the “woman-like creeper” concept. This term beautifully unites language, art, and botany in one elegant expression.

LOTUS LAMPSHADESThere are endless variations in terms of shape, material and usage. Here you can see three classic white versions as pendant lights. We make other shapes and sizes for table and floor lamps, or mini versions for a large chandelier. And they age beautifully. My oldest lotus shade was made about 20 years ago.
