The Art of Doing "Nothing" (For Once)
Your brain is like a Chrome browser with fifty tabs open. All. The. Time......sounds familiar???
You are the one who knows where the spare keys are. You know the exact date the electricity bill is due. You know who needs to be where at 4:00 PM.
In our world, being a "busy woman" is basically a full-time management job that never ends.
You spend your whole day being USEFUL.
But tell me, when was the last time you did something completely "useless"? Something that didn't put food on the table, didn't fix a problem, and didn't help anyone else's "To-Do" list?
The "Useful" Trap
We Sri Lankans are experts at running-running. If we aren't "productive," we feel guilty. Even our hobbies have to be a "side hustle" or a "skill for the kids." or something that can be enjoy eating.
But there is a specific kind of tired that sleep cannot fix. It’s that heavy feeling in your chest when you realize you’ve become a manager of tasks, not a maker of things.
Why Your Fingers Need to Move???
Think about it. When you are focused on something tiny....like the delicate, thin edge of a edible petal or the perfect curve of a buttercream leaf...
the world suddenly goes QUIET.
Your brain physically cannot worry about tomorrow’s office drama when you are trying to make a flower look real. It’s like a "Mute" button for the mental noise.
* You aren't the Boss: For those thirty minutes, you aren't a mother, a wife, or a manager.
* You have total control: You can’t control the traffic in Colombo or your teenager’s mood. But you? You have 100% say over the color of that rose.
* A different kind of win: Folding laundry is a win, but it’s gone in a day. Making something beautiful with your own two hands? That stays in your head.
The "Just Because" Factor
We need a sanctuary. A little corner of the world where it’s okay to PLAY. Where, if a petal breaks, the world doesn't end....you just eat it and start all over again. 😉
There is a quiet power in making something fragile, beautiful, and "unnecessary." It reminds you that you are more than just your chores. It gives your heart a chance to breathe.
So, tonight, while you're ticking off that last item on your list, just ask yourself:
"When do I get to be the MAKER instead of the MANAGER?"
Something is coming to help you find that answer.
Stay tuned.
