A long-awaited perennial has finally arrived in our seed shop! 🌿

Verbascum × hybrida ‘Southern Charm’ has been growing on our flower farm for several years. It is one of the first perennials to awaken in spring, together with tulips, narcissi and fritillaries.

To obtain earlier flowers, we have grown it in the greenhouse, while outdoors it blooms naturally in its own season. Its soft peach, cream and dusky mauve tones complement spring bouquets beautifully, especially when combined with pastel tulips and fresh spring foliage.

The flowers on its tall spikes open gradually from the bottom upwards, giving the plant a long decorative season and creating a light, airy vertical accent in the garden.

‘Southern Charm’ can be grown from seed and, when sown early enough, may flower in its very first growing season.

Seeds are now available in our seed shop, together with many beautiful tulip bulbs! 🌷

Meet ‘Milaan White’ ornamental sorghum (Sorghum nigricans) 🤍🌾

There are many different types of sorghum, but ‘Milaan White’ is especially distinctive—its seed heads gradually turn white as they mature. 🤍🌾

This soft, natural colour makes it easy to combine with many different floral styles. The stems can be used fresh in bouquets or dried for long-lasting arrangements.

Sow indoors in March and transplant outdoors after the danger of frost has passed.

From one small seed grows this impressive and beautifully textured ornamental grass!

Cottonbush is grown mainly for its unusual decorative seed pods. It begins with small clusters of delicate flowers, which later develop into tiny green pods. These gradually expand into the soft-looking green “balloons” that make this plant so special in bouquets and floral arrangements.

✂️ WHEN TO HARVEST

Cut the stems when the pods are large, firm and still completely green. Do not wait until they begin to yellow or split, as mature pods open and release seeds with silky white fibres.

Harvest during the cooler part of the morning and place the stems directly into clean water. For floristry, the leaves are usually removed so the seed pods remain the main feature.

⚠️ IMPORTANT

Cut stems and removed leaves release a white milky sap called latex, which can irritate the skin and eyes. Always wear gloves, avoid touching your face and wash your hands and tools thoroughly afterwards.

Gomphocarpus fruticosus, also known as Cottonbush or Milkweed, is one of the most unusual plants in our seed collection.

Its delicate flowers develop into extraordinary, pale-green balloon-shaped seed pods that add wonderful texture and movement to bouquets. The long stems and sculptural pods make it especially valuable for creative floristry and late-summer arrangements.

It is hard to believe that something so impressive can grow from one small seed—but it can! Start the seeds early indoors and grow the plants in a warm, sunny position.
