We have been empowering women for over 17 years by training them in upcycling, patchwork and quilting... We believe our charity is unique, encouraging upcycling and empowering families, especially targeting women in need and promoting and building an eco-friendly environment. We are the first non-government organization to introduce quilting, a ‘new’ activity in Mongolia when we first introduced
it. Our founder’s vision was to establish a Community Center in Ulaanbaatar where Mongolian women could meet for quilting and other crafts, take quilting classes, and run a shop to sell their products. Our women are eager to learn, already have sound sewing skills, and own very old, but usable hand-cranked sewing machines. They have fabric scraps and clothing to recycle, so may easily begin quilting without any additional expense. Seen more as a hobby in western countries, in Mongolia we are using quilting as an income generation method to support women who are unemployed. Through the support of generous volunteers from USA, Japan and UK who provided patchwork quilting training, we were able to develop quilting skills in both urban and rural areas of Mongolia. During the last 17 years, the organization has trained over 3,800 women from all over Mongolia. We participated in international quilting exhibitions in USA, Australia, Japan, Turkey, Russia and the United Kingdom with our products. The products are sold at the Center which has a retail area where the hand made products are displayed and also State Department Store, Ulaanbaatar’s biggest department store, and at some duty free shops. The products that are created via upcycled materials are souvenir items and everyday household items that can be used by all Mongolian families. Examples include tote bags, home textiles, stuffed toys, wall hangings etc, and in these pandemic times – unique and stylish face masks. Our Center is located downtown in the capital city of Mongolia and is designed with a Mongolian inspired nomadic style and decorated with colorful quilting products and we also serve good quality coffee at the Coffee Shop beside the Quilting Center. We welcome local citizens and tourists visiting daily to share in our culture. The profit received from the coffee shop is dedicated to supporting our daily activity of quilting.
