🧤 ĦAMRUN SPARTANS SIGN GABRIELE MARCHEGIANI! 🔴⚫

Ħamrun Spartans have officially completed the signing of experienced Italian goalkeeper Gabriele Marchegiani. ✍️

The 30-year-old began his football journey in AS Roma’s youth academy before making his Serie B debut with SPAL in 2016. He later represented several Italian clubs, including Gubbio, Novara, Ascoli, Potenza and Trento. 🇮🇹⚽

Marchegiani also gained valuable experience in Greek football with Atromitos, Iraklis and Panthrakikos before beginning his new chapter in Malta.

Standing at 1.89 metres, the Italian goalkeeper brings experience, presence and added competition to the Spartans’ goalkeeping department. 💪🧤

👨‍👦 Gabriele is the son of former Italy international goalkeeper Luca Marchegiani, who enjoyed a highly successful career with Torino and Lazio and formed part of Italy’s squad that reached the 1994 FIFA World Cup final. 🏆

🔥 Another important addition for Ħamrun as the Spartans continue strengthening their squad!

🚨 𝗦𝗟𝗜𝗘𝗠𝗔’𝗦 𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗦𝗨𝗠𝗠𝗘𝗥 𝗬𝗘𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗨𝗟𝗧𝗦! 🔵⚪

Despite a busy summer of ambitious recruitment, Sliema Wanderers have suffered their second consecutive defeat of the 2026/27 VBET Malta Premier season.

The Wanderers lost 2-0 against reigning champions Floriana in the Old Firm Derby at the Centenary Stadium. 🏟️

⚽ Dunstan Vella opened the scoring in the 37th minute with a precise low finish from the edge of the penalty area.

⚽ Paul Mbong sealed Floriana’s victory from the penalty spot in the 74th minute following an FVS review.

Sliema had earlier seen a goal disallowed for a foul inside the penalty area, but they were ultimately unable to find a way past Floriana’s defence.

After also losing their opening match 2-0 against Hibernians, Sliema remain without a point or a goal after 180 minutes of league football:

⚽ Zero goals scored
🥅 Four goals conceded

The season is still young, but expectations are high following the club’s major squad rebuild. Branko Nišević and his players must now respond quickly and begin turning their investment into results. ⚠️

VisitMalta has officially become the main shirt sponsor of Ars et Labor Ferrara—the historic club widely known as SPAL! 🔵⚪️

The VisitMalta logo will feature prominently on the front of SPAL’s new Erreà home shirt throughout the 2026/27 season. The kit, unveiled at the Hotel Duchessa Isabella d’Este in Ferrara, also includes design details inspired by the medieval columns of the city’s iconic cathedral. 👕✨

This represents a historic milestone for Malta’s tourism brand, marking the first time VisitMalta has become the principal sponsor of a football club outside the Maltese Islands. 🌍

The agreement follows the recent acquisition of the Ferrara-based club by Gozitan businessman and Ħamrun Spartans president Joseph Portelli through JP Football Holdings Ltd.

Ester Tamasi, Italy Director of the Malta Tourism Authority, welcomed the partnership and highlighted football’s ability to create relationships, promote destinations and bring communities together. ⚽️

Founded in 1907, SPAL is a name rich in Italian football history, having spent several seasons in Serie A. The club is now beginning an ambitious new chapter under Maltese ownership, with the objective of rebuilding and returning to higher levels. 📈🔥

⚽ Balzan have strengthened their attacking department with the signing of South Sudan international Valentino Kuach Yuel!

The 31-year-old forward arrives following a spell with Eastern District in Hong Kong, where he scored four goals in 17 Premier League appearances during the 2025/26 season. 🔥

🌍 Yuel brings considerable international experience to Malta, having previously played across Australia, Iran, Qatar, Uzbekistan, Libya and Hong Kong.

Żabbar St Patrick have strengthened their midfield with the signing of 𝗣𝗮𝗵 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗸 𝗚𝗼𝘂𝗵𝗼𝗻! 🟡⚫✍️

The 19-year-old Ivorian joins the Saints on loan from Turkish club Göztepe S.K. for the 2026/27 season, with the agreement running until June 2027. 🤝

Born in Abobo, Abidjan, Gouhon developed within Göztepe’s youth setup and gained experience competing in Turkey’s U19 Süper Lig. 🇹🇷⚽

Primarily a central midfielder, the youngster can also operate in attacking and defensive midfield roles, giving coach Gilbert Agius additional flexibility in the middle of the pitch. 💪🔥

Ħamrun Spartans have strengthened their attacking department with the signing of experienced Italian centre-forward Marcello Trotta.

The 33-year-old arrives in Malta following a career that has taken him across Italy, England and Portugal. 🌍⚽

Trotta featured in Serie A with Sassuolo and Crotone, while also representing clubs including Avellino, Frosinone, Ascoli, Cosenza and Triestina. His most recent experience came with Sora in Italy.

🏴 In England, Trotta made his Premier League debut with Fulham and enjoyed productive spells with Wycombe Wanderers and Brentford. He scored 13 goals during Brentford’s successful 2013/14 promotion campaign.

🇵🇹 He also gained experience in Portugal with Famalicão, while at international level he represented Italy from U16 through to U21 level. 🇮🇹

Standing at 1.88 metres, the left-footed striker brings physical presence, valuable experience and another important option to the Spartans’ attack ahead of the new league season. 💪🔥

🇲🇹⛵ HISTORY MADE IN AARHUS! ⛵🇲🇹

Malta’s young sailors delivered the country’s best-ever results at the ILCA 6 Youth World Championships, producing a memorable campaign against some of the finest youth sailors in the world! 🌍👏

Held in Aarhus, Denmark, from 11–19 August, the championship attracted 429 sailors from 45 nations. The competitors faced demanding conditions, including shifting winds of between 8 and 25 knots, powerful westerlies and temperatures below 17°C. 🌬️🌊

🌟 Katrina Micallef led Malta’s challenge with an outstanding 8th-place finish among 122 sailors in the Women’s fleet, earning a place inside the World Top 10! She also received a special recognition plaque presented by Danish sailing legend and three-time Olympic medallist Anne-Marie Rindom. 🏅

💪 Jonas Micallef secured an impressive 27th place overall in a highly competitive Men’s fleet featuring 307 sailors.

👏 Kaine Muscat continued his promising development by finishing 19th in the U17 category while competing in the Silver Fleet. This followed his 12th-place U17 result at the European Championships earlier this summer.

This was only the second time Malta had been represented at the ILCA 6 Youth World Championships, making these achievements even more special. 🇲🇹❤️

Congratulations to Katrina, Jonas and Kaine for representing Malta with determination, talent and pride! The future of Maltese sailing looks very bright! ⛵🔥
