Did you know.......Orchids weren’t always the chic coffee-table staple we know today. In the 1800s, they were called “the jewels of the plant world” — rare, expensive, and borderline mythical. Victorian collectors built entire glasshouses just to grow them. “Orchidelirium” swept Europe: wealthy collectors would send hunters across South America + Asia, and a single rare Phalaenopsis could cost more than a house. But their appeal wasn’t just status. Victorians believed orchids symbolized luxury, refinement, and rare beauty. They placed them in drawing rooms, not gardens, because the blooms lasted weeks and didn’t fade like cut flowers. Fast forward to today: we now have faux orchids from Cote Noire - they are quiet luxury for interiors. No messy petals, no replacing. Just sculptural stems, glossy leaves, and blooms that last forever. They bring that same Victorian sense of calm luxury, but without the conservatory + team of gardeners.
