💸 In the 1600s, tulips caused the first economic bubble in the Netherlands — one bulb could cost more than a house!
🌍 They’re a Dutch icon, but actually come from Central Asia and arrived in Europe via the Ottoman Empire.
🍽️ During WWII, they were used as emergency food in the Netherlands.
🇲🇽 In Mexico, they’re mostly imported and bloom best from March to April.

In one of our favorite sections, we find the poppy flower in The Wizard of Oz ✨🌞

🐦‍🔥 For the 1939 film, set designers hand-crafted over 40,000 fabric and paper poppies, creating a stunning and almost surreal red field.

🍃 The poppies cause Dorothy, Toto, and the Lion to fall asleep just before reaching the Emerald City. This was inspired by the real effects of o***m, which is derived from certain poppy species.

🧚🏻‍♀️ In literature, poppies symbolize dreams, forgetfulness, and gentle death. Baum, the author of the book, used them as a metaphor for the danger of being lulled by illusion or comfort.
