Getting the doweling and frame pieces ready by hand for the upcoming Calgary Backstrap Loom Weaving Sessions. Every loom begins with simple materials, patience, and tradition.

I love that the process starts long before the weaving itself — measuring, cutting, shaping, and preparing the structure that will eventually hold stories in thread.

I’m hosting a small, curated backyard art market in Bridgeland, Calgary this summer and I’m looking for a handful of artists and makers to join.

🧵 Intro to Backstrap Weaving – Beginner Workshop

Join me for a hands-on weaving experience inspired by traditional textile practices of Mexico and Latin America.

In this 3 hour beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn how to weave using a backstrap loom—where your body becomes part of the process. You’ll be guided step-by-step as you create your own handwoven band to take home.

No experience needed. All materials included.

Ixchel is coming to Calgary this June & July ✨

I’ll be spending the summer weaving in the open air, busking in parks across the city with my backstrap loom. Come by, say hello, watch the process, and connect with the threads as they come to life.

Each piece carries story, time, and tradition — and I’d love to share that with you.

I’ll also be offering a limited number of weaving workshops (dates TBA) for those who want a hands-on experience 💛

Caught mid-weave and mid-thought… 😅
I might look a little stressed, but honestly I’m right where I want to be. The loom has a way of pulling you into the process — counting threads, fixing tiny mistakes, watching something slowly come to life.

It’s focused, a little chaotic, and completely satisfying. ✨
Sometimes the best moments in creating don’t look peaceful… but they feel exactly right.
