Repairing eyelet ring hole puncher
Making a hole or holes on fabric to insert a ring is a time consuming affair. The curtains hang on a pole but the pole goes through holes with grommets which are also known as eyelet rings.
This type of curtains has an appeal of its own. When I was in Israel / Jordan trip, the hotel rooms were all using eyelet ring curtains.
When I first started making eyelet ring curtains, it was daunting. The spacing of the rings need to be calculated and after that, the markings must be done accurately. If the markings are inaccurate, the curtains don't hang so nicely.
I didn't have any tools except scissors and the rings. I traced the inner diameter of the ring using my pen and after checking the spacing, then I took out my scissors. It was painstaking to cut each hole by hand.
Later, I found a hammer and hole puncher online and that saved a lot of time. I use a hammer to knock the puncher onto the fabric. If you live in a condominium, the sound travels. Yikes, you cannot do this at night time.
Then, a contact introduced me to a machine puncher. O, it was so much easier and less noise!
Alas, this machine could not cut and I learned how to change the rotary knife. Then a short time later, even with the new knife, it didn't cut.
I had to dismantle the machine to replace the belt.
Here are some photos to show how to remove the cover to see the insides.
