When did you last quote a motorised roller shade through New Way?

If your honest answer is "never" or "a long time ago," this post is written for you.

Most dealers who know us come through tracks. Curtain tracks, hospital tracks, commercial cubicle tracks. That is where the relationship started, and for a lot of you, that is still where it sits.

Here is what has changed in the last two years.

In 2024, our motorised range was limited. A narrow tube selection, one motor tier, and no premium automation partnership to speak of. We knew it. You probably knew it too. Since then, we rebuilt it.

Tube range expanded from R64 to R300, covering residential and commercial applications across single and dual roller configurations. Dual roller is now a standard offering, not a special order.

Kepta-D became our core motorised motor. Volume doubled year on year. Lead times held. The quality complaints that plagued the category two years ago are gone. We track every unit.

Lutron came into the range in FY2025. We are now a Lutron-authorised fabricator for Sivoia QS and Triathlon. That means certified compatibility, factory-tested assemblies, and co-programming support on commercial and residential Lutron projects.

Aqara authorisation followed in Q4 FY2025. For dealers working with smart home buyers who want HomeKit or Matter compatibility without Lutron pricing, Aqara is the clean answer.

That is four material changes in two years. Range depth, motor reliability, Lutron certification, and Aqara authorisation. None of these existed when most of you formed your opinion of what New Way does in motorised.

Ramai dealer terlepas projek curved window sebelum sempat menghantar quotation. Bukan sebab pemasangannya susah. Tetapi kerana mereka masih menggunakan rel lurus yang dipaksa mengikut lengkungan tingkap, akhirnya langsir mula tersangkut hanya dalam masa seminggu.

Floor-to-ceiling glass is one of the most considered features in a premium living room. It also creates two problems most homeowners learn to accept rather than resolve.

The first is the afternoon light. The sun that makes the room beautiful at 8am drives you out of it by 4pm. The glare is not subtle. It makes the space uncomfortable precisely when you want to use it most.

The second is the film night problem. Ambient light from an unshaded glass wall washes out any projection. The room looks premium. It does not perform as one.

Your client just said: I saw something similar online for half the price. If you do not have a ready answer, the job goes elsewhere.

The price objection on a roman blind is not about price. It is about three things the client cannot evaluate from a photo.

The fold. Does it stack flat every time the blind goes up, or does it bunch and pull at the pleats? Every guest who visits the home will see it. A client who has been shown the difference does not go back to the cheaper option.

The fabric range. Sheer for morning light. Dim-out for a home office. Full blackout for the master bedroom. A client with three different rooms has three different requirements. A system that covers all three in one product ends the supplier comparison.

The installation looked perfect. Twelve months later, the hembar line was gone.

The drift is not dramatic. Three millimetres here. Five there. But in a luxury space where the window wall was specified to read as one architectural element, five millimetres is the difference between a room that feels resolved and one that does not. The client may not be able to name it. They will feel it.

Most motorized shade systems have no answer for this. Fabric winds at fractionally different rates onto each roller tube with every daily cycle. The only option is a manual readjustment that delays the drift but does not stop it.

Lutron solves this in software.

IHA, Intelligent Hembar Alignment, places a sensor inside every Sivoia QS drive. That sensor reads the exact position of the shade at every moment of every cycle. The IHA software adjusts each drive's speed so all hembars arrive at exactly the same drop simultaneously. Tolerance held: 1/8 inch. Below what the human eye detects at normal viewing distance.

That blackout callback is almost always a side channel problem.

Most dealers treat side channels as an aesthetic add-on. Something to include when the client wants a cleaner look. But side channels are functional, not decorative. And on the right installs, they are not optional.

Here is what they actually do. They seal the gap between the fabric edge and the window frame so light cannot enter at the sides. They hold the fabric edge in position throughout the full drop so the shade cannot flex or billow. And they complete the blackout system: without them, no fabric quality will stop light bleeding at both edges.

Spec them on every blackout bedroom, every west-facing window with direct afternoon sun, every large drop where fabric movement is a risk, and every exposed-edge install where the fabric edge is visible from inside the room.

There are installs where side channels are not the right call: purely decorative shading, sheer installs without privacy requirements, deep reveals that conceal the edge naturally, or clients who have accepted the light control trade-off in writing.

But on every blackout job, side channels are part of the system. Skip them and the install will not perform. The second visit costs more than the channels did.

Side channels add to the quote. They also add to the outcome.
